•A delegation of Havelock Street residents appeared
before Lueknow council last week"asking for the place-
went
lace ment of nevi stops signs. .

Johnston carne with a petition signed by about 25 peo-
ple expressing 'their concern" with the speed vehicles ,
travel Havelock Street north, in particular the area in the
vicinity of the playground.
The park is a popular place for area children to play,
.and residents are worried that some child attempting to
'cross:.the street is going to by injured. due to the speedd of
vehicles, Presently there.sare two"children at play" signs
• posted on hydro poles,however; the coimmittee doesn't
believe they are effective,.
The.petitton requested that either the corners of
Havelock and Rose Street, or Havelock and Hamilton
Streets, be made four way stops ;IS a means of control-
ling speedster's.
"The cost is minimal. said Gibson, when council
gave no definitive reply „to •the,request. "All it takes is
the political will to do it." . •

Lucknow's,main street will have new Victorian style
benches by reunion titnetci add to the new took down-

Tracy Meurs,on behalf of the Lucknow District
Chamber' of Coritnerce:, approached the Lucknow
Lancers for a donation towards this project, The Lancers
graciously:agreed to give the, sutra of $2000, with ;$100•
of le be given to the Horticultural Society, to use for
more flowers this year.
The original, plan '.vas to have eight benches similar to
the one at the sports complex, made, out of cedar With
plain ends,but when the' matter went to council ;for
approval; plans were altered.
Subject to the benches nwctiiig with Meurs's
approval, council has agreed to kick in the rest of the
• money needed to purchase six, benches and three "
garbage, containers in a Victorian design: with the ends in
black wrought, iron and the seats made out of ash. The
),total cost of the six benches; and three garbage, contain-
• ers is about:$5300; • ,

On Sunday, the Lions will be standingover a hot
barbecue preparing beef for 5 to 7 p.m. dining. ' •
Youcan also start your day off right with a healthy
breakfast on Saturday prepared by the Scouts at the
Cornu unity Centre and on Sunday by Legion ; mem-
bers. Both breakfasts run from 7:30 to 10 a.m.
There will be a chip booth on the arena grounds, and
some type of refreshtnent available at, the balldiamonds
wring the family tourney. .
Volunteers are • needed for SHORT one-hour shifts;
so not to interfere with anyone's enjoythein of the
weekend activities.
