Fran Ma:Quail, of West
Wawanosh Township, was
the guest speaker at the
Feb. 11 meeting of the •
Lua:know Herticulturat
Society. Fran; spoke on
her family's life in this
area; how they purchased
a farm that bad been cash
slopped for years and the
soil was clay instead of
day loam. She mentioned.
all the improvements they
have made over the years
-- building a house, later
a barn and two years ago
adding a greenhouse adja-
cent to their home.
Fran explained the
Community Garden
Project where they grow
vegetablesfor people who
are too busy, don't have
enough room or are more
interested in growing
flowers. Last year 30 fam-
ilies were involved in the
Project.
Fran also hada :hide
presentation on, the com-
munity project and their
organic farm operation,

ipate in "Adopt a
Hiighway." Two sections•
of .road — Bruce County
.Road i., for two blocks
"north of the village arid'
Amberfey Road 86, for
two blocks west of the vil-
lage. The members will be
:responsible for checking
these roads three times a
Year. The program will last
for two years.

CompetttiQn, which wilt
be promoted through the
four area schools.
Tiffany Ziegler, and , Anne Marie Forysthe Were
two of the students at LCpS lest Week who par-
'ticipa►teed in the Jump !:tope for Heart event. The:
students raised $1,600 exceeding last year's
total by $400. The school was also in the new
progran Jump Points, Each r student that Jumps
and every dollar raleedt earns points; that .the
school can redeem for any equipment they

The Trillium Award
survey Committee was
reinstated for another year
but the Contest will have 'a
different, format this year,

Mihired McClenaghan
has offered a quantity of
canna bulbs to ,the Society.
Interest was shown with
the idea of planting thorn
along the back of the new
Waterworks flower bed.
A bus trip in the fall to
Niagara 'Falls and the
Butterfly Conservatory,
plus other eattractionins in:
the planning stages.
