800 employees displaced under revised Hydro estimates

An update to Ontario
Hydro's preliminary esti;,
mates of employees being
-moved to. Pickering end
Darlington nuclear sta-
tions, "looks a little bit
better • than before,"
according to Terry Squire,
information manager at
the Brine Nuclear Power
l evelepment.
Employees working at
the Bruce station were
given.a revised list of job
numbers on P'xiday.
"In Abe preliminary esti-
mates, given in September,
1,076 jobs.were being did-
placed. Under the revised
•
estimate now 802 employ-
ees will be displaced."'
He said base. staff
working at Brut;e
Generating Station B has
been revised
"1996 and 1999 looks,
better for staffing."
Squire said the
September numbers didn't•
include Bruce Generating
Station A being recovered
in 2003.
"Now it does," Squire
said.
Ile said from
September '97 to January
'98, staff at the Bruce site
has been reduced by 250
through voluntary moves
and temporary staff :lay-
ofts.
Another ,100 staff is
being held at the site
because, Squire said, there
should be another 100
positions at the site's
Central Maintenance
Facility (le write proce-
dures and do some equip-
ment repairs for.
Darlington and Pickering
stations.
Squire said about 270
staff will be moved to
Pickering and Darlington
and another 200 will: be
trained for other jobs,or
laid off.
."We realize not all, the

answers are there. but dis-
cussions arc taking place.
But business planning is
being done."
Squire said discussions
about how employees will
be moved from one station
to another are still., under
discussion.
"As scion as we have
the information,we will
tellthe employees."
Squire said Bruce A is
expected to be laid up the
end of March, although
the station is licensed by
the Atomic Energy.
