Christina Mackay, who died at
Meallmore Nursing Home, Inverness, en.
Oct. 3 in her 103rd year, was the last of her
generation of a family which has given dis-
tinguished
is-tinguished service to the Free Church.
She was born in Lucknew, Ontario,
where her father, the Rev. Anus. Mackay,
was minister in the Presbyterian church: His
grandfather had emigrated to Canada from
thefamily croft at Torroble, near 'Lairg, in
1$31 at the time of the Highland
Clearances, but Angus always wanted' to
return to. Scotland:. He did so in; 1905, when
he was .inducted to the 'charge of the Free
Church, "Kingussie, which he held . until his
death in 1939.
Having clisiinguished herself at school in
Kingussie, consistently taking first place in'
alt her,classes, Miss Mackay graduated MA
at the University of Edinburgh, and after a
short spell . With a legal film irl Edinburgh,
went out to Peru to joni her brother in the
Free Church Mission there. ,Called back to
Kingussie . in 1924,.she kept house for her
Widowed' father•until his death in 1939, set-
ting herself the same.high standards as.
"Lady of the Manse" as she had done in.• her
academic studies, presiding with charm and
