Dispassionate government
9frnm page 4
Ontario education into a
submissive means to a
political and fiduciary end.
We are faced with a
discompassionate govern-
ment and the teachers
have no choice but to fight
hard for the future of all.
children and in fact, the
recognition of each child's
individuality and humani-
ty. For the love of all our
children and the equality
of opportunity that public
education provides, we the
front line providers and
care -givers cannot back
down 'for we must speak
loudly to give our children
and their future a voice.
Systems of education
for profit, where the poor
will be relegated to ' a
much diminished shell of
public learning, are cur-
rently lurkingin the shad
ows ready to seize their
millions and they are smil-
ing.. .
I hope that , Mr.
Johnston truly puts high
quality education and
equality of opportunity for
all children as a clear and
inimovab : riority just as
the c • ssroom teachers
,have always done, day in
and day out.
1 hope this is so, but
after the revelation that
Johnson, harris and Eves
have been, once again,
lying to the people of
Ontario as shown in the
Performance Contract for
the Deputy Education
Minister, I fear for our
children's future and the
very existence of publicly
funded schools in Ontario.
Harris then went on televi-
sion and directly lied to
the people of•Ontario.
We must decide if we
trust the classrooms teach-
ers or the pompous liars.
This governmentwill
say and or do anyt ung if it
advances their extrenne
and dangerous right wing
agenda. Unfettered power
with noaccountability is
inadvisable in the hands of
anyone but it is most trou-
bling in. the'hands of the
deceitful. '
