Artsand. crafts studio opens o.n main street by Pat Li vingstto A working. arts and crafts studio is one of the latest businesses to join Lucknow's . downtown retail sector.. Crystal's Studio is owned and oper- ated by Crystal Elliott As a former partner in another local business, Crystal started doing cus- tom work - painting on shirts, milk cans etc. "My custom orders were increasing and it was hard to find supplies I needed," she says. Thus, Crystal decided to open her own business. Her studio is a retail outlet for finished prod- ucts and supplies. It's also a placewhere you can go if you're of the "How did they do that?" frame of mind and want to learn the process yourself. "The. interest from the public and the number of requests I was getting to learn what I do," was another reason Crystal opened her studio.; "There's been a wonderful response to the classes," sa s C sial. y f3' Currently: classes are:on, decorative painting and dried Mowers. She plans to have a wide variety of classes year, round, and is looking for teachers" to teach their craft. Another bonus offered by this business is studio space. For a small fee you can work on your own craft and leave it there. Crystal said she has been told this is very advanta- geous for crafters because they don't have to worry about putting everything away after each work ses- sion. And to accommodate them, the business is open late two nights a week. Crystal herself is con- centrating on larger pieces such as saws, milk cans, furniture and troinpe l'oeil. The latter is a painting that creates a strong illusion of reality. Some major work -on the interior of the spacious location resulted in a open, bright atmosphere: Drop in to Crystal's. Studio at '625 Campbell Street. Hours ,are Monday to .Saturday, 9 to 5, and Wednesday and. Thursday evenings until .9 p.m. You'll find displays, set up to show a craft from the unfinished to finished stage and .the supplies needed, as `well some 'hard -to -find supplies. Phone 528-2125.
