Decision on moratorium still pending
Ashfield Township
council is waiting to hear
from the Huron County
Planning Department
regarding the recent
request by a group .of
ratepayers for a moratori-
um on new intensive live
stock operations.
At last week's council
meeting, a delegation was -
told that in the opinion of
the municipality's solici-
tor, the township is not in
a position to pass an inter -
control bylaw under
Section 38 (1) of the
Planning Act.
Councillor Paul Frayne
read correspondence he
had personally solicited
from two other legal
sources advising to the
contrary.

$2,100 increase ,over last
year's insurance premium.

P Q .e sea
ing groupings of munici-
palities, the Committee
has decided the potential
saving of two scenarios
merit further consideration
and study.
One scenario involves
the groupings of all
municipalities into one
unit with a combined pop-
ulation of 18,530.
The second scenario
being considered is . a
grouping of the 1.0 munici-
palities into two units as.
• follows
Unit 1 —Ashfield, East
Wawanosh, West
Wawanosh, Wingham and
Turnberry (population
9086).
Unit 2 Morris, Grey,
Brussels', Blyth and
Howick (population
9444).
The above scenarios
will be evaluated and the
mandate of the Committee
is simply to provide the
information to the coun-
cils of .the municipalities
involved. Decisions
regarding any possible
amalgamation will be the
responsibility of the coun-
cils.
