Proceeds from this fund- raiser will go towards local programs and ser- vices for 'people with Alzheimer disease and ,;. their caregivers... Coffee Break events take plate ,anywhere peo- • ple gather for coffee such as: large and small busi- nesses, hospitals, service organizations, hair salons, bridge club's, police or fire • • stations, .eommunity cen- tre, .care facilities aind in people's homes to name just a few. A 'donation is made to the Society for every.cup poured. . . The Alzheimer Coffee , Break is a grasS roots ini- datiVe. that was first held in September 1996. Last • year over $375,900 was raked. thanks to partici- • pants and sponsors. . • Alzheimer disease is a .degenerative brain disor- der that. destroYs'vital brain cells. There is no ,known cause ar cure for the :disease. By. the year 2030, it js estimated over .. 3/4 million Canadians' will :have Alzheimer disease and. related dementia. 'Junior coaches age 11 and up can receive training at the Canskate coaches clinic Oct. 19 in Gocierich. Also, a skater. development clinic is being planned for November in Lticknow. • , • , The new skating season will begin in L,ucknow. on Oct. 15. Being introduced this year are a Learn to Skate ,program for wee skaters Saturday mornings, and a new system for senior'arid intermediate skaters, where the. ice costs are paid at registration, and the Skaters arrange . private lessons with a professional coach.
