Lucknow, ladies have memorable
trip aboard lake freighter
The trip was advertised
as the opportunity of a life-
time and for two
Lucknow-area Womeny a
week's journey on a Great
Lakes'salt carrier more
than lived up to its billing.
Agnes Delbergue, and
Gerry McCann don't try to
contain the excitement of a
trip that is now firmly
" etched in, their memories..
"It was the chance of a
lifetime, Agnes offered.
;And it's just not some-
thing you could buy."
The trip was an early o
bird prize in the Adventure
Raffle 97, an initiative of
the Children's Aid Scoiety
of Huron County and Sifto ..
to raise money for summer
camp for disadvantaged
children.
The port -to -port trip
aboard . the ` Algoway,
adorned with the •offical'
SummerCamp For Kids
logo,was offered. by
Algoma Central Marine
• and ULS Corporations as
an. early bird prize in a raf-
• fle of travel prizes that will
• raise enough funds to .give
over 300 children summer
camp opportunties.
The winning ticket was
purchased by Agnes's hus-
band, a mine employee, ..
' and . •she 'chose: friend,

pany her on the week-long
journey that began with a.

the freighter with some . .
trepidation,; andnotions
that the experience would
be onthe boring side, to,'
their .delight; it was any-
thing but..
"They took care of us
from the time we got on in
Goderich until we got off
again, " Agnes said while
Gerry added that the cap-
tain made sure they were
`looked after' the whole.

The freighter left the
Port of Goderich with a
load of salt destined for
Milwaukee, .Wis. After
unloading salt the freighter
,took on and disposed of,
loads of stone at various
ports before returning to
Goderich.

While there was no set
itenerary and the ladies
were virtually 'free to
spend the time as they
wished, 'boredom never

liness or the hospitality 'of

"We had a tour of 'the
ship and it wasabsolutely
spotless, including : the
engine room,". Gerry said :,

The ladies were, also,
explained. "We helped the.
.ladies in the kitchen and
had coffee breakwith 'the'
crew."

make the trip as comfort-
able arid enjoyable as pos-

the trip exceeded' all
expectations! ;The. scenic
beauty.. was: also a pleasant
