Federation of Agriculture
vice-president Mary
O'Connor issued a press
release stating the legisla-
tion reinforces agriculture
as a provincial interest.
and will give farmers the"
assurance they need "to
get on with the job of pro-
viding .•, . quality food ,
and fueling the provincial
economy."
At theme time, Ontario
agriculture minister Noble
Villeneuve said he expects
public support for the leg-
islation when it is subject-
ed: to public hearing this
autumn.
That support, however,
will not be unanimous.
Desmond and represen-
tatives from PROTECT
have both asked to speak
• at those hearings, .
As Villeneuve said in a
recent interview with The
Western Producer, the
public will have to be
reassured that fanners Will
not see this protection
from "nuisance" lawsuits
as a license to pollute or
to engage in irresponsible'
farming practices.
