Sealy last appeared; on that stage as the pianist for the world premiere of Timothy Findley's The Piano Man's laughter.... And Others in. April. Sealy, a two-time Juno nominee and 1997 Juno winner for hest contemporary jazz"alhutn, was taught piano by Oscar Peterson's sister, Dais Sweeny. Those beginnings provided the launch pal ror his varied and sucCessful career as a musician', i. ctor, composer, consultant and recording artist. Performing Africville Suite, Sealy is joined by some of The country's hottest jazz musicians, which make up the rest of his quartet. Together theydeliver a powerful and stirring.performance featuring blues and gospel as • well'as: jazz. Sealy had to research •his roots for.Africville Suite. Based on the 1960s demolition of Africville, "a- tiny Halifax suburb that was• one of Canada's oldest 'black Communities and the first home of Sealy's father and grandmother, .Africville Suite musically .explores the tight -knit community, its destruction and subsequent fallout. The musical comedy was first produced in 1978 at the Charlottetown Festival and played on both amateur and professional stages across Canada every since.
