But gradu- ally, I learned that good '..things come, to them that wait:' And .'eventually,.a person falls' into this slow- er rhythm himself, if only you. give it. time: • Lucknow is' a town where people greet you on the street, where people in the bank are always s.mil-. ing and ready to help (thanks to all you girls). • It's also a place where you; can phone the store and ask the clerk to please give ,a message to your husband if you happen to forget something.` It's hard to mention all the special people we have met and which, crossed.our way; we'd like to -thank you •one and all for your friendliness and care... Lueknow Sentinel, Wednesday, July 30, 1997 -- Page 3 Volunteerism at its best in Jack and Doreen Mal Dear editor: There are, a couple of people in the area who have done a tremendou. s amount of volunteer work in our minor sports system for several years, and it's time they were recognized: From the start of the pre -season soccer registration,. coaches have to be recruited for each team in each level. Teams have to be split, evenly • in each division Scheduling meetings were attended and schedules set up for . each team as well as referees being scheduled for the season. Iri our rec soccer system, we have. over 130 kids involved in the squirt level; 68 (4 teams) in the atom division; 26 (2 teams) in the 'mosquito division; 27 (2 teams) in the pee wee division; and 15 on the bantam team. When the season starts you would often see these two people at our, local. soccer field making sure practices and games ran smoothly if it didn't interfere with some of their children's games.•.. When the older squirts sent four teams to a tournament in Wingham, these two peo- ple could be seen cheering on• the side- ro s lines the whole day - even though none of their childrenwere involved in the tournament. Again, this past weekend, as the Atom 13 -Tool team was playing the champi- onship game in the year end tournament in Clinton, their voices could be heard .on the sidelines - soft- ly though - as they . had been cheering, from 8 a.m. to 8 rn the xit bag Lucknow is very fortunate to have these two people promoting and organiz- ing soccer for th the past eight years and pushing this sport to the level that we are competitive with all other communities in the area. So, when you see Jack and Doreen. Mali, give them a thank you and let them know you appreciate how they have made the sport of soccer grow 'for all our children to enjoy. Just the numbers registering. in this .,. year's soccer, program alone should make ' Jack and Doreen very proud. Wayto go! And thanks from. all -the parents of the players. • • 0 • Steve Chamney.
