will be with the people we are presently not doing busi-
ness with.
Our next plans, withcouncil's approval, will be to ini-
tiate a fetter within the next couple of weeks to the sur-
rounding municipalities.; We will need a ,very positive
"yos" from each council in order to proceed with a
•restructuring : proposal;. I would encourage 'everyone to
give it some . thought 'and pass on your views to local
cduncil.. • .
The following' letter was submitted by the councillors
of the Village of Lucknow and was, read at the June
meeting.. I should also mention that due to timing,`, we
were not allowed to submit this letter on behalf of the
' Village but only as councillors.

The Vtllage of Lucknow is partially amalgamated
with our neighboring municipaliti'es of Kinloss,.
Ashfield, and West Wawanosh. We share three major seer-• •
vice agreements. Therefore, we must decline the Bruce
County amalgamation proposal dated May 20, 19.97.
The three -services we share, include recreation, fire •

structure for amalgamation as we have combined our
efforts to achieve a common ,goal. This process over the
past years has created a larger community which shares
in the services and economic benefits. : • , •
We' beiieve that Lucknow would not be well repre-
sented and possibly Some ,changes would follow that
would not be in our best interest if this proposal was to
proceed. Toenter an agreement that focuses to the north
and not with our present partners causes unrest within.
our community. To date, we have not exhausted all '
avenues vyith Ashfield, West. Wawanosh, Kinloss and
possibly others. •
Plans are to continue negotiations with our existing.
service partners with whom we share community inter-
est and possibly another municipality. Over the next few
months we will build an>agreement that will be submit-
ted throughlhe proper channels:
After ,declining the motion to accept the'
Amalgamation Committee's proposal of May •20, 1,997,'
we -as members of Lucknow council felt. it was neces-
sary to put forth our reasoning,,which is the purpose of
this letter.. At this time, we would also like to commend
the .efforts of the Amalgamation Committee fortaking a
leading role in offering a concept to restructure Bruce
County. within its present boundaries.
"(Signed by the four Lucknow councillors: Rick
McMurray, Lillian Abbott, Tom Pegg, Paul Zinn.)
