Your input wanted.on Sentinel`s 'chatter' column
' While doing the. graduation rounds this past week,
it dawned on me that those children whose pictures I
took in kindergarten. 'in 1989 are now in high school.:I
have enough reminders that "time stands still for no
one" but this one brought to mind that I am now in
my ninth year of doing this editorial thing.
One of. the positives
of this job is the contact with h
so many people, and a good number of them being
students.
Last week, one teacher posed the question to her
kindergarten, students: "Do you know who this lady
is?" ,
Well they did .indeed, although not by name, they;
knew 1 was the "picture lady," Not a bad description!
Our co-op student has completed her duration with
the Sentinel. 'One of the responsibilities we gave her
was the weekly "Let's. Talk" column. Thiscolumn.
received quite a bit of interest and I am going to try
and keep it up.
However, I'd like to give you, our readers, the
opportunity to have some input on this weekly "chat-
ter" column.

Unexpected enthusiasm has
developed over the Jubilee cele -
oration to be staged on Friday July 1.
The committee in charge of arrange-
ments has met with a splendid
response .to • every appeal for assis-
tance so that everything points to a
splendid, day, bamnig- bad weather of
course.
All school children and others :who
intend to participate should .be at the
Lucknow School Grounds, well,:
before 10 o'clock as the parade ought
to start at that time. The Guelph Jazz
Band will .lead the. way to 'the park.
An orchestra and large choir will lead
in singing a number of the more
familiar Canadian. patriotic'sorigs.,
The afternoon. will be given 'over to
field sports in which young as well as
old will have a place:
We learn • that quite , a number are
preparing to take' "part in the
calithunnpian competition, • and it is
hoped that. a number of good • floats
will be in evidence.

More restructuring
proposals can be reviewed
Dear 'editor: them through the .same, process. once
At the June Bruce County council
meeting, a proposal to amalgamate
Lucknow, Kinloss, Huron and Kincardine
Townships and Kincardine was approved.,
The approval allows the "plan to be sub-
'mitted• to: the Minister of MV1u,nic;ipal
'Affairs for their approval, ,
The plan that is being put forth is not a
true .amalgamation proposal that, follows
the guidelines that the provincial. govern
ment has put in place. It` is a "skelton
plan" that could be a good start for,
restructuring and 1 would guess that, Al'
Leach, Minister of, Municipal Affairs,
will find it satisfactory and advise•to'con-
tinue with further development. ' '
However, it is very important to 'note.
that further proposals will still be
revievyed,and approved if,so justified.
An example close .by would beHuron,`
Township and Ripley. They recently-
amalgamated and the above plan will put
again.
I feel strongly that Lucknow has been
:amalgamated for years with our neigh
boring• townships: We share many good;
cost effective. .programs. These are the

people P. s d. g , g.,in one
community with,' not Kincardine to the''
north. One of the niggestbbstacles.to
overcome' will be the county boundary
but itis possible. The, Minister has docu
mented' that `county boundaries; can ; be
changed to allow for restructuripg.
So, *here does this'put us?" '
• Do not feel that just because this plan
is approved by Bruce County Council:
that there' are no other alternatives.:
Taxpayers. Must show support to their
local. councils- to get the 'mo,mentuzn
going. A councillor's job is to support
your,,point of view..I•f nothingis said,.the:.
above proposal will be pushed through,
unchallenged; and we '.turn to page 5.`,
