Quiet in the Land was
• written by award winning
playwright Anne Chislett
who takes over duties
from Janet Amos as the
festivals artistic director in
November. The play won
the Chalmers Award in
1982 and the Governor
General's Award for
Drama in 1983 after pre -
tiering at the Festival in
1981 and, 16 years later, it
is still being produced and
studied by students in
schools and universities,
Quiet in the Land is a
finely -drawn portrait of an
old order Amish commu-

nity held together by its
'strict moral beliefs,.
German ancestry and paci-
fism, The tensions and

devastation of World War
1 threaten to split the com-
munity when Christy, a
stern elder, is challenged
by his rebellious son

of parents, teachers and
School Advisory Council
(SAC) representatives
Wednesday night that the
county will lose 75 per
cent of its trustees. • ,
"As of Tuesday (May
13) this week, our Huron

Perth District School
Board will be represented
• by nine trustees according
to the guidelines forward-
ed by the miniatry;":he
noted in an address. "This
.• number is established by
,.population, -thus Perth
•,;' would have five, ,(and)
Huron would have four."

Ashfield, West Wawanosh
and East Wawanosh. are •
proposed to have one
trustee, while Clinton,
