School advisory
council learns
more about
education funding
Janet Dickie was introduced to the LCPS communi-
ty advisory council; at the April' 14 meeting; as the
,person who will fill the vacancy left by -the resignation
of,a member in March.
Guest speaker for thea meetifig was David
Armstrong, superintendent of schools of the Bruce
County Board of Education.
Armstrong outlined the budget process used by the
board, An explanation of funds received by the board'
showed monies provided by local: municipalities .along
with provincial government grants. It was 'apparent
that the provincial government grant was decreased in
each of the last four years, resulting in a reduction in
'the operating.; budget of the board:
Sortie discussion took place regarding the impact of
these reductions on both the board of'education as a
Wholeand individual schools.
Armstrong also addressed several questions raised'
by.School Community: Advisory Council;
A report was given on the recent parenting courses,
"Thriving not just Surviving", provided by Sharon
Creighton and Kris Roberts, public': health nurses with
the Grey -Bruce Health unit. The presentations were.
informative.and stimulating with -°a good nurnber,in,
attendance. Followup: courses' :during .the .1997/98
school: year were, proposed with : a number' pf sliggcs-
:ttons as to titnes,and'topics; ; ,
Voting `on'the final draft of the proposed ;constitu
tion for the Lticknow SCAC';was deferred until the
next meeting; with all the inembers: to review°' and
revise the final" copy ahead of time
The'next meeting is May 12, at 7 p:M. at LCPS. A11
