"Roots of Bruce" held
their third three day event
last week at the Walkerton
Agriculture Building. It is
put on by 25.0 volunteer'
farmers from Bruce
County to demonstrate dif
ferent farm enterprises.
Over 1200 Grade 6 stu-
dents ..franc the county
attended. The students
• .arrive 'by the bus load and
spend about two hours
going through the 28 sta-
tions and then participate
in the detnotstrations.
. Back in their classrooms
they discuss what they
have learned in their short
course of farming. It
taches them whereit all
starts and goes rightto the
biproductsand grocery
store, •
,There are emu, pig and'
sheep farmers (Sheep
shows how to shear and
talk about the meat);. dairy
farmersdemonstrated how
to milk a cow; beef farm=
ers showed how beef can
be produced ;6n marginal
land where crops cannot
grow and the biproducts of
the animal, chicken and
laying hensdemonstrated
the grading of eggs. Yes.
they had the Bee farmer
and Ontario Hydro talked
about farm safety. •
Someone was there
from the•Poison Control
Centre, andthe crop.
farmer had four sections:.
1. the combine 2. plants
and. growth, 3, soil erup-
tion, and 4. the grocery
store and reading of the
labels,
