Nurses against hospital changes
Dear Editor:
The following is an
open letter sent to the
Wingham hospital's
• board of governors.
To the members • of the
• hoard of governors:
This letter is to address
our concerns about the
board's decision to move
the .chronk care patients
to the second floor.
Some of our concerns
are outlined below:
'MRSA infection (an
infection: that doesn't
respond to many antibi-
otics) is on the rise and is
known to be spread when
patients are transferred
from area to area, e.g.
•whirlpool tubs, transfer-
ring from seOontl.f19or Co
terrace room. , •
• Location, -the
posed area on the second
floor for the chronic
•.patients is ,unacceptable
as patients *ill haVe to be
transported by ambulifts
through 'obstetrics to the
public elevator down. the
Main'corridor on the first
• floor to the whirlpool
and/or tetracc room.
• Would you like your fam-
ily member transported in
,,this manner?
• • Chronic/long term
patients need an environ-
ment conductive to their
age"level, away from the
• hustle and bustle of active'
• care.
• • Geriatric/rehab p -o-
• grams are. Conducted in
the terrace room, there -
tore more time will be
spent transporting
patients around the hospi-
tal. Will there be enough
, manpower to accommo-
date theseprograms?
'A second concern of
• ours.involves the elimina-
tion of the night switch-
board operator due to
budgetary 'cuts: What
happens when the night
supervisor is assisting
•with a delivery in the
• case room and 'someone
comes 'to -the-emergency-
: -mom door?
• We challenge you to
reconsider your decision.
Three long-term

Woman's dress the same only. different - The
average Woman wore eight pounds of cloths ten
years ago where she wears two and a half pounds
now. Weight has been taken off but comfort has not
been sacrificed. Never did women dress as beautiful-
ly and as sanely, as she does now. 'Beauty .and utility
have gone hand in hand. Ten years ago the average
woman's, skirt swept the ground: TodaY they are 16
inches from the dust and, microbes of the street,
sometimes further:away than that, •

uberculosis x-ray set for early .June. - A rep-
resentative of the Health Department was in
town this week making arrangements for the
mass clinic which will be .held in the town hall,
Where the equipment .will be set up on the Saturday:
prior to. the clinic.
Appointments are made at the rate of 100 per hour,
and the time allotted for the Lucknow clinic will be
sufficient to handle approximately 1,800 appoint-
ments. 'Past experience has proved. that a house-to-
house 'canvas is essential to have the general ,public
take full advantage of the x-ray clinic Which is
absolutely free.
Restroom planned - A.public restroom is planned
for the new Clansman recreational building on the
former site of the Douglas livery barn just south of
the post office. This will provide an accorninodation
locally of which there hasbeen much need,
