the public was`warned that
it is not business as usual,
and cuts will be felt. almost
immediately.
"It's important for peo-
ple to understand what
changes in these •hospitals
really :mean," Hoak said.
"It's tempting to think, or
be lulled. into thinl ing,
that's it's business as usual

There were tliree ways
for the task force to target
savings, closing' hospitals;
cutting direct patient care,
and. administration and
support. Y
The method chosen was
to cut. administration and
support, hence the move to
form a single governance
-structure with one chief
executive officer and one
board of directors for all
eight hospitals.
"Almost $8 million will
come out of clinical care,"
said DHC member Linda
Knight, "It will be a very ,
different ,system to what.
We're used to."

will have as work pro-
gresses on an interim gov-
ernance committee this
June and the creation of
the first single system'
board by next April. '
A few were even more
concerned .about the ambi-

saying it was doubtful the
system CEO would be in
place by September and
the first beard operational
next April.
"The likelihood of all
this happening by -the time

Fadelle, adding he'd like
to see a modest adjustment
to the dates listed.

Commission rumored to
be arriving this fall, "we_

offered, and may include..

and rehabilitation.

Finally, the' remaining'
' four hospitals in Clinton,
Exeter, Seaforth and St.
Marys will have 24-hour
emergency care, some'
inpatient medical beds,
chronic care beds, outpa-
tient clinics/therapies and
may include low-risk
