The annual joint meeting, of the Lucknow WMS and
Unit Three evening group of the UCW was held this year
inathe Presbyterian • Church on March 5.
Shirley Hawthornewelcomed everyone and opened
with a poem "Renewal." After' everyone joined in
singing the N mn "Come, let us all you unite and sing"
Shirley. and Laura Lee Cayley gave announcements per -
tabling •to
er-taining..to each group: . •
Joanne Vanderveen and Yvonne Congram took up the
offering and Shirley led in prayer.
The meeting was then turned over to the committee. of
Laura Lee Cayley, Shirley Brooks and Susan Alton who
were in charge of the remainder. of the program.
This week being the, World's Day of Prayer and
International Women's Day they highlighted the role of
women both now and in Bible times: A short discussion
was held on •what rights we have that were denied', our
•,grandmothers.
Susan Alton read the article from the Sentinel of Feb:
5 that told some of the roles of women in 1927. Another
discussion on oppressions that women still are . faced
with such as battered women and; some of the obstacles
of women in other countries, was held;
Lindsey. Raymond played three instrumentals on her
flute which were enjoyed by everyone.
Some of the roles of women in the Bible were read
bringing a different view of. the life of Delilah, Jezebel
and Mary Magdalene.
For the worship service scriptures and hymns relating
to Palm Sunday,. the Crucifixion and Resurrection were.
all worked into the theme concluding with the singing of
"Thine Be the Glory" and the Benediction,
This being the 35tlr anniversary of the UCW the
. church fellowship room was appropriately decorated' for
• a birthday party- Alice Tayloir and Mildred Loree led in a
sing' song of old familiar numbers with Monarda Moffat
accompanying on the piano. I Following a couple of get
acquainted`. games the lunch eom nittee brought in a cake
with 35 candles and the Presb:yterianladies,sangRappy
Birthday to the UCW. Everyone enjoyed 'cake and, ice
cream around the tables. ReneGreer extended a vote of
th finks for ,the .evening
