Dear editor: •
We wish to comment on the larris government's
,reinvesting ofhealth care dollars. ;Toe government
hassomie laudable plans;. however, we disagree
whole heartedly with its restiicturing of hospitals to
accomplish its purpose. •
There are many ways to find -money- to support
new projects. One' that always surfaces in our minds
concern& the: issue of abortion. Abortion is elective
surgery. The word "pro -choice" says it all.,Why by not
defund abortion'. as is done with other elective Burg-
In September 1994 and again in Septetfber 1995,
the Research Branch, of the ' Library of Parliament
produced reports summarizing the cost of abortions
performed in Canada. To our knowledge, these are
the only ;two government reports ever compiled on
this subject, The. figures quoted in the 'Library of
Parliament reports are not comprehensive and, there- -
fore, lower than the actual sums spent, The total
reported for Ontario: in 1992/93 was ,$25,456,680.
Defundit g abortion would certainly help save money,
