the open communication with the children.
Gary appreciates the co-operation he has
received from the parents and the organiza-
tions of the community. He points to the
number of organizations which use the
school during the off hours and to the
construction of the community oriented play-
ground at the school, which used the
resources and finances raised in the com-
munity. He has promoted the community
school concept in the townships using the
school.
Gary is looking forward to the challenge
he sees being presented to him in the
position as principal of Seaforth and Walton
Public Schools, which is the Huron County
Board of Education's first experiment with a
twin school. The object of twin schools is to
try and bring more services to the smaller
school through the twin relationship, says
their new principal.
Looking over the period at Brookside
School, Gary observes that after 81/2 years in
one school. many of the things you wanted to
do have been achieved and maybe it's time
for some new ideas.
He speaks approvingly of the Brookside
teaching staff which, although a young staff,
"are top notch," he says.
"One thing you look for is people who can
establish a rapore with the child, that kind of
relationship with the children where they
enjoy coming to school and hopefully they
will go out of the school with a smile," Gary
explains. You have to temper everything
with "You try," he says.
