Ripley couple leave for Florida
Francis and Margaret Gemmel] left
Ripley on Monday of last week motoring to
their home in Tamarac, Florida for the
winter.
Next Wednesday Dec. 28, Don and Anna
MacTavish will also be motoring to their
home in Tamarac, Florida. Mrs. Sheila
MacDonald of Con. 8 West will be the acting
secretary of the Ripley Agricultural Society
while Don is away.
Mrs. Marilyn Johnston of Ripley Street in
Ripley was the nurse last week at the Ripley
and .District Medical Clinic while regular
nurse Mrs. Carol Johnson of Highway 9 was
on vacation.
Following the recent sale of their farm on
the Sixth Concession West in Huron
_. Township Bill and Nina Wyld and family
have moved to their new quarters on High-
way 21 - the second Allan Farrell place just
north of Bethel Church
Fred Brooks of the 8th Concession road
west of Ripley passed away in the Kin-
cardine and District Hospital last Friday
morning December 16, in his 68th year.
Born on Thursday, August 3, 1916 in
Weston, Ontario he was the son of the late
Harold Brooks and Mary Hanna Hulse both
of England. He is survived by his wife the
former Mary Musselman of Kincardine,
three daughters Shirley - Mrs. Harold
Galloway of the 8th Con. Huron Twp.;
Dianne Brooks, and Phyllis, Mrs. Ron
Daniels, both of Kitchener, two sons Wayne
of Toronto and Harvey of Ripley and seven
grandchildren.
Also surviving are three sisters, Hilda
McGregor of London, Edith Howie of
Aylmer, Marjorie Frost of Moose Jaw,
Saskatchewan, and three brothers - Cliff of
Collingwood, Cyril of Grand Bend and Les of
London. He was predeceased by one brother
Harold Jr.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on
Sunday, Dec. 18 at the MacKenzie McCreath
Funeral home in Ripley with Rev. Glen
Macpherson of St. Andrews' United Church
in Ripley officiating. Burial will be in Ripley
Cemetery. Sympathy is extended to all the
family at this time of bereavement.
The following obituary notice is from a
Toronto newspaper.
"Martyn, Allan Wellington, suddenly at
Mississauga Hospital on Friday, Nov. 25,
1983 in his 72nd year.
Al. Martyn, beloved husband of Helen
("Lyn") Galbraith, dear father of Sharron,
Peter, and the late Gail Edith, loving
grandfather of Mark, Alexandria.
Mr. Martyn is also survived by his sisters
Amelia of Toronto, Kathryn Alton of
Walkerton and his brothers Lovell and
David both of Toronto and predeceased by
sister Annie and brothers Eugene, Eric, and
Donald.
Funeral service was held on Monday,
Nov. 28 at the Willowdale Presbyterian
Church with Rev. A.L. Sutherland of-
ficiating. Interment Westminster Cemetery
in Willowdale".
His brother, Dave Martyn of Willowdale
phoned the above information to Ab Wylds
last Saturday evening, Dec. 17. f:e added
that Allan was the druggist in Streetsville, a
former member of the Streetsville Council,
a member of the Lions Club and the Masonic
Lodge there.
Sympathy is extended to the family at this
time of sudden bereavement.
Fire
After nine last Thursday evening the fire
whistle sounded in Ripley. It was a pipe
chimney fire at the home of Ken Cun-
ningham at Point Clark. Ripley firemen
answering the call were Ray Fuller, Rod
MacDonald, Bill Robinson, Ivan Cook,
Brian Pollock, Bernie Twolen, and Don
Peterbaugh. They were out for an hour and
the fire was extinguished.
Carol singers
After classes were finished on Tuesday
afternoon last week music teacher Miss
Anne Farrell and 16 students from the
Ripley District School went to Huron Villa -
the Senior Citizen Home in Ripley.
Accompanied by Miss Farrell they sang
Christmas carols which were enjoyed by the
residents. Thanks to Gladys Huston for
reporting this item.

William Purdon. Norman Hayes, executive
director of Wingham Hospital and Mary,
Vair, chairman of the hospital board gave a
video presentation on the proposed hospital
addition. The minutes were read by the
secretary, Mrs. McGuire. The meeting voted
in favour of continuing the secret sisters.
The roll call was answered by, What 1 would
like for Christmas. Answeres included
peace, love, friends and relatives home for
Christmas.
A duet was sung by Mrs. Rod Lamb and
Mrs. Bill Gibson, Because of Christmas Day,
and Star of the East. Mrs. Farrier introduced
the guest, Bruce South District President,
Mrs. Perrin Lowry, who expressed her
appreciation for the invitation and wished
every one a Merry Christmas and a Happy
New Year.
Mary Hehn, Mrs. Lorne Durnin and Mrs.
McGuire accompanied by Mrs. Farrier,
pianist, sang Christmas in Killarney, Happy
Birthday Jesus and Christmas Island. Mary
Hehn played the guitar and Mrs. Durnin the
violin in a musical duet, Once in Royal
David's City. Mrs. Rod Lamb sang the solo,
Bring a Toy, and Here We Come a Waltzing.
The meeting closed with wishes of a Merry
Christmas, after which the secret sisters
drew names.
