We wish to draw attention to the fact that Saturday, December 10 is world wide Human Rights bay. 'Thirty-five years ago, on December 10, 1948, the Universal Declara- tion of Human Rights was adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations. We in Canada tend fo take these freedoms for granted, but in Many countries of the world people have been denied these basic freedoms. On December 10, one year ago, a world wide signature drive for the release of all prisoners of conscience (none of whom should be in prison) was launched by Amnesty International. Many local people were among some SO,000 English speaking Canadians who signed the petition. Watch the media for news of the handing over of the petition to the UN Secretary-General and the General Assembly president this coming weekend.
