The senior girl and boys volleyball team from Brookside Public School participated In the
regional volleyball tournament at Goderleb Collegiate lnsf Lute on Saturday, Brookside
teams played better than their SOWS showed but the girls felled to win a sane and the boys
were only saexessfed In wig one game, Students from Colborne, Holmeaville and

Teachers attend conference
On November 18 and 19 at the Constella-
tion Hotel in Toronto, the Federation of
Women Teachers' Associations of Ontario
hosted a conference entitled "Developing
the Whole Child: lnsidelOutside",
The keynote speaker, Warren Schumacher
from the University of Massachusetts ad-
dressed the question "Can teachers really
make a difference in the lives of their
students?"'
One of the highlights of the conference
was Theatre Direct Canada's presentation of
New Canadian Kid.
Specialists from many fields presented
workshops and seminars on such topics as
self-concept, creativity, the arts and spec
curriculum areas.
Attending from this area were Nancy
Maclntyre, Joan Black and Janice Reid, all
of Lucknow Central Public School.
Brookside students
win contest

Maitland Valley Conservation held a
contest for the grade 8 classes of Brookside
in which they were to name a lake purchased
by the conservation. Mark McConnell won
first prize with his entry of Birch Lake. Jean
McWhinney was second with Lake of the
Woods and Barry Nivins and Kevin Black
came in third with West Wawanosh Lake
and Lake West Wawanosh.
On November 14 Mr. McCall, the,superin-
tendant of curriculum for Huron County
visited Brookside and spoke to the staff
about Language Arts Curriculum.
On November 15, Ralph Morrison came to
the school and spoke to the grade 7 and 8
classes about his job working at the Lucknow
Co-op and his university experience.
Mr. Liddle attended a conference on Kids
and Curriculum on Thursday and Friday.
Mr. Vito Stecca supplied for him.
Senior volleyball teams went to Goderich
on Saturday for a regional volleyball tour-
nament.
There will be skating on November 25
from 2.00 to 3,00 p.m. at the Lucknow
Arena.
Mrs, Tebbutt's Class is doing an experi-
ment on seeds.
Mr, Errington's class is doing Bat Graphs,
Mrs. Blanchette's class did a pet book and
are also learning how to county money.
Mrs, Worsens class was glad to get a
letter from Penny Holmes, a former student
of the class.
Mrs. Young's class is doing fall changes
and learning nursery rhymes. They are also
working on addition.
The grade 8 class is doing String Art on
butterflies.
Intramural hockey started last week.
Kirks Killers played against Willie's
Whompers, Kirk's Killers won 4 to 1.
