Construction replaces burned out apartment building

It is four months now since the Bob Love
Apartment budding (the former Ripley
Restaurant) was destroyed by tire. The date
was Fri day July . At present the
Durr MacArthur Contracting firm of RH
Kincardine b constructing a neat one storey
bull,, I on the site. Taking advantage of the
dry E weather last Friday the three
carpenters worked with speed to erect the
framework, the rafters and complete the
sheeting of the roof in one day. Doing the job
were ea ter foreman Vern Dtuilop,
Kew Hayes, and Dennis Kidd, all of Kin-
cardine.
The aim was to Complete the outside shell
and have it as shelter from wintry weather
to come. Recently, the demolition of the
burned out former wilding was carried out
by the Doerr Bros. of Walkerton. Then a ce-
ment pad for the new building was poured.

Winners of this year's What's Cooking at

fatewell to Mr. and Mts. Roger Robb on

Needham read an address and William
Oickie presented the Robbs with a maple
tag r-sasa r, he had made. The Robbs ate
moving to Ayr and will be missed in the
community.
Ray Cunningham was moved from Strat-
ford hospital to Winghaam hospital on Satur-
day. Ray is coming along quiet well now.
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. D'onaafd
Ritchie ow the birth of theft son ori Wednes-
day iii Wingham hospital.
Midgets post win
over RipIey

The Midgets raised their record to 2-1-1
with a Monday night win over the visiting
Ripley team. Since exams shortened the
roster to 13 players, the boys knew they were
in for a good workout; they rose to the task
vaitfr a hard skating. dose checking game
that kept them on top of the play. especially
Or the first half of the third period when it
counted most.
Whew Ripley opened the scoring in the
first minute on a pat by Hawrylyshyn. it
looked tike it could be a tong ni .ht at the
Forum but the boys settled to then task.
stopped the Ripley attack and. at 4.25 tired
the score on a goof by Dan Gilchrist from D.
Murray.

Murray from Md(th and D. Murray. and
Grant Murray from S. Min ray and Oann
Lindsay. gave Larcknow a 3 - 1 lead.
Ffowever, in the last five minutes of the
period. Ripley mounted a comeback on oafs
byTwolan and Gamble to end the frame at 3
3.
In the third period. the boys proved to be
poor hosts as they scored three straight. The
turning point in the game may have been
aggressive penalty killing about the mid
point in the period during which Lucknow
had several good scoring chances.
Lucknow scorers were Grant Murray from
Gilchrist; Tom Gilmore from Darin Lindsay;
'Jimmie Murray from Darin Lindsay; Donnie
Murray from Darin Lindsay.
Ripley countered with a late power play

Next cement blocks were laid for the outside
walls.
The laundromat - washers and dryers at
the northwest corner of the former apart-
ment survived the fire and now form one
main corner of the new building. Since the
new building is not as wide as the former
one, there is walking space between it and
the two storey brick building next door
belonging g to hair dresser Florence Mac-
Donald. The roof was shingled on Monday
this week.
Bill Robinson of Ripley reports the follow-
ing winners at the Ripley Dons bingo last
week – Donalda McLean, Vi Hallam Y.
Rider, and Darlene Calling. Also three
ladies sharing the last special prize were
Myrtle Ann Watson, Donalda Pollard, and
Sandra McCallum of the Ripley area. The
jackpot prize of $400 on 55 calls still stands
for the next bingo which is next Tuesday,
Nov. 29 in the Huron Township hall in
Ripley.
Christmas is coming
With Christmas just a month away, the
season is starting to show along the main
street in Ripley. The Lynn's Hobble and
Textiles Shop, operated by Judy van
Kooten, has a colourful window display. At
the Carl and Pat Brennan Grocery store a
Christmas draw is underway. And at the old
bank corner in the Village Fashions Shop,
operated by Elaine Shantz, there will be a
display on Saturday, Dee. 3 by Ron Rock.
Twiner Gordon Brook
The death of Tanner Gordon Brook occur-
red at his residence in the Walker House in
Kincardine on Monday, November 14. He
was born in Huron township on Monday,
February 29, 1904 and his patents were the
late David Brook and Arabella Needham.
The funeral service was held last Wednes-
day afternoon, Nov. 16 in the MacKenzie
McCreath Funeral Home in Ripley with
Rev. Glen Macpherson of St. Andrews
Church in Ripley officiating. Burial was in
Ripley cemetery. Tanner is survived by his
sister Myra, Mrs. Cecil Norman of Kincar-
dine township and two brothers, James and
Russell, both of Ripley. He was predeceased
by his brother Stewart. Sympathy is extend-
ed at this titne of bereavement.
Tanner was well known through the Huron
Ripley and Kincardine area and will be
missed.
Visiting in England,' Europe
On Monday evening this week, Nov. 21,
Niels Frederiksen of Malcolm Street in
Ripley flew from Toronto airport for
England. Landing yesterday morning at
Heathrow airport in London he transferred
to a Scandinavian plane for Copenhagen.
