HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Lucknow Sentinel, 1983-10-19, Page 200. church news 1 WMS choose thanksgiving theme The Fall Thankoffering of the Women's Missionary Society of the Lucknow Presby- terian Church was held on Wednesday, October 12 in the church. Mrs, Morgan Henderson presided and opened the meet- ing with a Thanksgiving verse and a welcome to ail. The Bible study, prepared by Mrs. Wallace Wilson, was given by Mrs. Omar Brooks. The theme was centered on Thanks- giving and all the blessings we enjoy. Mrs. Noble Johnston led in prayer. Three musical numbers were much enjoyed: a piano duet by Mrs, Bert Moffat and .Mrs, William Henderson; a vocal duet by Mrs. Austin Loree and Mrs. Iton Forster and a solo by Marion Itaynard. Mrs. Cyril Brown had readings on Thanksgiving and October. The guest speaker was Mrs. Allison Ramsay. Her text was, 1 am the vine, ye are the branches. She told of the first Canadian missionaries, Rev. and Mrs. ()eddies who went to the South Pacific Islands (New Hebrides) almost 150 years ago, and of the hardships they suffered in their mission work. Courtesy remarks were given by Mrs. Ross Cumming. The meeting was closed with prayer and a social hour followed. Lucknow UCW unit 1 meets Unit 1 of the Lucknow U.C.W. met in the church parlour on Tuesday, October 5, Alleve Bradley opened the meeting with a Thanksgiving poem, Thanksgiving is Here Again. She turned the meeting over to the convener of the program, Mrs, Eric Hackett, The theme of the meeting was Praised Two poems, A Oood Thanksgiving and We Thank Thee, were read by Mrs. Jardine, The roll call, a Bible verse containing Praise was answered by 15 members. Mrs. Hackett gave a most interesting meditation using the word Praise, which means to glorify Gad. Mrs, Bradley chaired the business. Mrs, Alvin Irwin gave the treasurer's report and one September birthday added to the birthday funds, Mrs. Rice read an article from the report of the World Council of Churches, Mrs, Allan Gibson completed the require- ments from this unit for the church supper on October 18, Following the committee reports, Mrs, Bradley read a poem, Take Nothing for Granted, A social time was enjoyed as we visited over our cup of tea.
