institute meets
The October meeting of the Dungannon
Women's Institute was held Thursday
evening, October 6 at the home of Elmira
Finnigan, Ooderich.
President, Winnlfred Oirvin, welcomed 18
members and seven visitors. The roll call
was name a trouble spot in the world and
how it concerns you.
Secretary -treasurer, Hessle McNee, read
the correspondence. There was a letter from
Zambia telling bow their institutes . help
young people in their community, and the
history of their institutes. °oderlch Town.
ship W41. sent an invitation to their
November meeting, and Auburn W:1.
invited Dungannon W.1 to their October
meeting, president Winnifred °Irvin and
delegate 11a Crozier will attend the area
convention October 27 - 28. The Dungannon
institute delegate is to support the motion
that tin cans be recycled.
A humorous reading by Mrs. Ray
Finnigan, °oderich, was much enjoyed.
Elmira Finnigan introduced the guest,
Mary Here, who gave an account of her
recent trip to Papua, New Guinea and
showed many beautiful slides of the country,
which included "C.113.O," workers, her
daughter Ruth and Jim Austin, Souvenirs
were displayed on tables tot viewing, Mary
was thanked by Tinge Logtenbetg on behalf
of the Ingtittite,
Pennies for friendship collection was two
cents tot every pair of shoes you owned.
Hostesses Elmira Finnigan, lia Crozier
and Marian Zinn served lunch,
Visit Rainy River
Walter and Elizabeth Forster of Ripley
and Leonard and Freda Moines of
Lucltnow enjoyed a visit at Rainy Rivet
District at their awns' homes, Jamie Forster
and Mac and Anne Marie Maclnttes, tat the

Holyrood institute plan remembrance service
Mrs. Ellwood Elliott was hostess for the
October Family' and Consumers Affairs
meeting of the Holyrood Women's Institute
with Mrs. Harold Smith director. She
conducted two contests and gave two read-
ings in keeping with the meeting and also
gave the motto, Live your life to the fullest,
you never know what is in the future, and the
topic was, Homemade soup stirs the heart to
love.
Mrs. Lorne Eadie was the delegate to the
area convention at Owen- Sound and gave a
splendid report.
The roll call was, A penny for each year of
motherhood or an Institute member, the
proceeds going into the pennies for friend-
ship.
The president, Mrs. Charles Murray,
presided and Mrs. William Macpherson
read the minutes and financial statement.
Mrs. Charles Murray and Mrs. Harold Smith
volunteered to be delegates to the District
Rally at Kincardine hosted by Hervie W.I.
Final plans were made for the W.L catering
to the 90th birthday dinner honouring Mrs.
Harold Smith's grandmother, Mrs. Dunlop
Sr. of Kincardine.
On November 3rd the Holyrood W.I. will
celebrate their 70th anniversary when past
presidents, other officers and friends will
attend. A local leaders class an rug making
will be held at Walkerton on October 25. The
president will attend, Committee 2 is in
charge of the Remembrance bay service on
November 11 which the Institute has
sponsored since World War I.
May Hoyle gave the courtesy remarks and
Happy Birthday was sung to Edna and May
Hoyle who have October birthdays and to
Mary Scott and Jack who have an October
anniversary and farewell 4o Hilda Ackert
who will be leaving for Arizona, that she and
Raynard will have a good winter and we look
forward to their return in the spring.
