council meets
in October
West Wawanosh Township Council held
its regular October session in the Office of
the Municipal Building on Monday evening,
October 3, 1983. All members attended -
Reeve Aitchison presided.
The minutes of the September meeting
were adopted as printed on motion of
Councillors Hickey and Todd.
In correspondence dealt with was the
Community Celebration Grant available to
municipalities in connection with Ontario's
Bicentennial in 1984. Motion by Councillors
Hickey and Brindley, That the Township of
Launch campaign
to upgrade hall
After only a few months of fund raising,
the Hoard of Directors of the Blyth Centre for
the Arts has reached the halfway point in its
campaign to raise $83,000 for the improve-
ment of the technical facilities of Blyth
Memorial Hall.
The overwhelming growth of activity at
the hall means that much of the equipment
has become inadequate for the volume and
quality of productions that are presented
there year round. The growth of music
programs at the Centre has created a large

obituaries
John A. Sturgeon
John A. Sturgeon, beloved husband of the
former Jean Perris of Ripley, passed away in
Mercy Memorial Hospital, Monroe, Michi-
gan on October 1, 1983, after a short illness.
He was in his 58th year. Born in Detroit,
he was in the American Army and served in
Germany for four years.
He is survived by his wife, Jean, mother,
Rose Jewell of Lucknow, brother, Wilbert of
Lucknow and one sister, Carolyn of Los
Angeles.
The funeral was held at MacKenzie and
McCreath Funeral Home in Ripley on
Tuesday, October 4, 1983 with Rev. Hugh
Nugent of Knox Church officiating. Burial
followed in Ripley Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Robert Tout, David
Ferris, Paul McLelland, Donald Robinson,
Ken MacDonald and Glen Stallwood.
Friends attended from Kitchener, Detroit,
Hamilton, Kincardine, Lucknow and Exeter.
Norman Erb
An area family was deeply grieved on the
weekend when death suddenly claimed
Norman Erb of R. R. 1. Formosa, at the
Wingham and District Hospital. His death
occurred on Sunday, October 2, 1983 and he
was in his 72nd year.
Born in Culross Township, on the farm
where he spent all his life, Norman Erb was
a son of the late Israel Erb and Martha
Ingram. He is survived by his wife, the
former Lottie Bonnett; three daughters,
Mrs. Dave (Dorothy) Wharton of R. R. 3,
Wingham, Mrs. Don (Laverne) MacDonald,
London, and Mrs. Winston (Eileen) Gib-
bons. Goderich; eight grandchildren; one
sister, Mrs. Stanley (Laverne) Cooper, and
one brother, Gordon. both of Lucknow. He
was predeceased by, one sister and one
brother.

service was conducted at two o'clock by Jack
Kindred. interment followed in the Baptist
Cemetery, Greenock Township.
Pallbearers were Stanley Cooper, Harvey
Cooper. Wallace Woods, Austin Woods.
Jack Bolton and Denny Zettler. Floral
tributes were carried by three granddaugh-
ters, Sheila Wharton. Margaret MacDonald
and Tammy Gibbons.

West Wawanosh hereby directs a resolution
to be forwarded to the Ministry of Municipal
Affairs and Housing stating that the
Township of West Wawanosh intends to use
the Community Celebration Grant of $697.00
to hold a Get -Together for all residents of the
township at the Municipal Building.
The six tenders received for the removal of
standing trees in a lot at the Inglis Pit were
opened and read aloud by the clerk. Motion
by Councillors Todd and Raynard, That the
tender of Donald Taylor of $330.00 to remove
the standing trees at the Inglis Pit, as
specified by the Road Superintendent, is
hereby accepted by West Wawanosh
Township Council, with the provision that
the tendered sum is to be remitted prior to
removal of the trees, and said removal is to
be completed by April 1984.
Road accounts in the amount of $7,924.02
were passed for payment on motion of
Councillors Brindley and Todd.

That the Building Inspector is hereby
authorized to issue permits to G. Smith
(house addition)0 D. J. Cochrane (garage);
and R. Foster (silo).
Motion by Councillors Hickey and Todd,
That West Wawanosh Township will cooper-
ate with the Huron County Safety Assoc-
iation in its efforts to have Dangerous Gas
signs posted on all silos in the County.
Motion by Councillors Hickey and-
Raynard, That the Clerk -Treasurer is hereby
authorized to attend the Cash Flow seminar
and Zone 2 AMCTO meeting in Kincardine
on Wednesday, October 26th and Thursday,
October 27th. (Office closed). The Clerk -
Treasurer also informed Council this time
she intends to take vacation from November
8th to November 20th inclusive, therefore
the office will be closed for 9 days during
that period.
Engineers William Shifflett and Doug
Gamsby of the firm of Gamsby and
Mannerow Ltd., Guelph, attended the
meeting on a request of council regarding
the Robinson Drainage Works. Mr. Shifflett
reviewed the problems encountered in the
preparation of a satisfactory report. Mr.
Gamsby outlined the expenses incurred to
date on the project. Motion by Councillors
Hickey and Todd, That the Township of
West Wawanosh hereby affirms that it does
not intend to adopt the Engineer's Report on
the Robinson Drainage Works, and that
payment of the engineering fees in the
amount of $9,000.00 is hereby authorized.
Third reading of the Provisional By-law for
the repair of the Gaunt Municipal Draun -
By-law #13-83, was given on motion of
Councillors Brindley and Todd.
Motion by Councillors Hickey and Todd,
That third reading is hereby given to By-law
#17-83, a Rating By-law to cover tile drain
loans in the total amount of $7,200.00,
The general accounts were ordered paid
on motion of Councillors Brindley and
Hickey.
