Computer sales centre
opens in Goderich
The Town of Goderich is going to be the
first place in Canada to have an Authorized
Sales Centre and Computer Centre in
Canada. Radio Shack has set up an operation
that will not only sell computers, but teach
people how to use them.
Eric Carman of Radio Shack has become a
pioneer in that he has become the first
independent dealer to sell a complete
computer service from computers and
software to tailored programs. He is the first
dealer in Canada to offer the complete and
separate computer centre.
"WE are the first. We made the proposal
to Radio Shack," he said. "We want to offer
complete and personalized service."
The new computer centre is located on
Kingston Street above Carman's photo-
graphy shop.
According to Ken Vingoe, who will be
looking after the computers and instructing
the classes so that he can get his PHD in
Computer Science at the University of
Waterloo, they are going to use a new
concept in teaching interested people how to
use, and understand, the computers.
"The classes will be geared to the
individual with the classes not running more
than two hours at a time," Vingoe explain-
ed.
The computer courses will be good for
those who need hands on experience for
correspondence courses they are taking from
the University of Waterloo, because the
computer will have a direct line to a
computer at the University.
The classes will start on October 1 and are

offered at all levels, with the cost and the
length varying with the course.
The computer° centre has a variety of
programs, rang ng from educational pro-
grams, such as math to programs that help
businesses run more efficiently. In total, the
centre has close to 400 programs.
The classes will be taught on the Model 4
compute%, but instruction will include
Commodore programming, and the centre
will be carrying Commodore software as
well,
Starting on October 8, a Kid's Day will be
held every Saturday where the kids have
competitions with the winners receiving a
trophy and coupon for money off of computer
products. Two weeks before Christmas the
final competitions will be held with the
winner receiving a color computer.
Everyone must concede to the fact that we
are living a computerized age and familiarity
with the machinery now available is a must.
Vingoe suggests that computers are not
toys, but necessities.
"It's the computer age and soon business-
es will have to be on computers because
their suppliers are already on some type of
system," he said. "The market potential
exists in the area and we offer software and
programs."
Computers are not just toys, but have
practical and universal applications for the
farmer, homeowner, and businessman.
Computers can be used in . the home for
budget management programs and are
invaluable to the farmer by providing
current weather and market price informa-
tion.
