*from page 13
and Brian Regier. In the
three games in which they
played the scores were
Dryden 7, Ripley 3; Sioux
Lookout 2, Ripley 7; and Ig-
nace 8 Ripley 3.
All the Ripley team stayed
at the home of Bob and
Margaret O'Donahue in Ig-
nace, They were wonderful
hosts. Bob took them to the
best pickerel fishing places.
A few years back, Bob was a
teacher in the Ripley Huron
Central School. The Ripley
team is looking forward to
going back next year. Ignace
Is away in Northwestern On-
tario on the railway from
Thunder gay to Winnipeg.
Recent visitors with Mrs.
Violet MacKenzie at her
home on Huron Street south
in Ripley were Mr. and Mrs.
Lorne R. MacKenzie, Rob
Susan, and Heather of
Unionville who were holiday-
ing at Point Clark beach and
Mr. and Mrs. Kyle Thomas,
Stu and Isabelle of Hunt-
sville, Alabama.

The Ripley Atom Soccer
team played in a tournament
in Seaforth winning a game
and losing in the semi-finals
to Goderich. They won over
Listowel after regulation
time on a shoot out. Goal
scorers were Scott Allen 2,
Leslie Bushell 2, and singles
by Dennis Johnston, Trevor
van Sickle, Briars Campbell
and David Nicholson.

In Squirt soccer it was
Ripley 2, Kincardine Sted-
mans 0. The game was a
hard fought contest with
Ripley halfbacks Matt Far-
rell and Ralph Grass taking
charge until the forwards
settled down and found their
scoring touch. Darryl Bolton
from Tracy Rintoul had the
first goal then Deane Stanley
from Sean Wolfe the second
one. Scott Martyn in goal
had the shut out. The return
of Susan Paquette to the
Ripley defence was most
noticeable in thwarting the
Stedman forwards. On
Saturday, the 13th, the team
travelled to Seaforth to take
part In the Lake Huron Zone
Sportsfest. The first game
played against Port Elgin
resulted in a 1 to 0 win for
Port Elgin. The Ripley team
played very well and the
match could have gone
either way. Standouts for
Ripley were Emily Rotteau
and Renee Rantoul. In the se-
cond game Ripley came up
against a strong Elmira side
and carne out of the contest
on the wrong side of a 9 to 1
score.
Ripley Ousted Tiverton
In softball the Ripley Pee
Wee team eliminated the
Tiverton team from the
WOAA first round play-offs.
They edged them 8 to 7 in the
first game held in Ripley.
Back in Tiverton on Sunday,
they beat them 15 - 3. Clint
Twolan pitched both games
with excellent field play
from his team mates. The
team is hitting very well
since using the pitching
machine and thanks to Bob
Emerson and Jeff Stanley
for their excellent coaching.
The Ripley boys now ad-
vance to the second round
aggainst the winners of the
Mildmay Formosa series.
These boys are also play-
ing the the OASA ( all On-
tario) with help from two
new pitchers Bevan Flett
and Tom McDonald. In the
first round Ripley beat
Paisley 2 games to 1. In the
first game Paisley beat
Ripley 11 to 6 in Paisley.
Both McDonald and Flett
had a go at pitching.
In the second game
McDonald hit a home run in
the bottom of the seventh to
break the 5 - 5 tie. Flett pitch-
ed the whole game. Ripley
went on to win the final game
in Paisley 10 to 1.
They are now playing
Belmore in the second round
of the series. The first game
was played in Belmore last
Friday evening. Ripley won
with Robert Drazazga hit-
ting a home run in the top of
the eighth with two on bases.
They scored two more in that
inning. Flett then struck out
the three batters in the bot-
tom of that inning. So Ripley
leads one game to none. The
second game is at 8:30
tomorrow evening
(Thursday) in Ripley.
