Clinton wins local bowling tourney
At a ladies tournament on
the local greens on August
10, first prize went to Jean
Gray's rink,_ Clinton; second
to Maudie Fisher and Mary
Treleaven, Lucknow; third to
Mary Fisher and Anne Mc-
Tavish, Lucknow; and fourth
to Audrey Walsh's rink, Clin-
ton.
On August 14 on the local
greens at a mixed pairs
tournament, first prize went
to Mel McFarlane's rink,
Goderich; second prize to
Bert Gray's rink, Clinton;
third prize to Elmer Mur -
ray's rink, Clinton; fourth
prize to Terry Gardner's
rink, Wingham; fifth prize to
Jack Broughton's rink, At-
wood;
and consolation prize
to H. MacCallum's rink,
Blyth.
On the Lucknow Greens on
July 17 first prize went to L.
Cundari's rink, St. Marys;
second prize to Bill Hewitt's
south kinloss
rink, Atwood; third prize to
Jack and Mary Fisher, Luck -
now; fourth prize to H.
Scrimgeour's rink, Goderich.
Other Lucknow winners at
recent out of town tourna-
ments were Jack and Audrey
MacDonald in Exeter, Grace
Elliott and Maudie Fisher in
Exeter, Grace Elliott and
Marion MacKinnon in Sea -
forth, Isobel Miller and Hel-
en Todd in Goderich, Orville
Elliott, A. J. Wilson and Don
McTavish in Stratford and
Couples motor to west coast

Tom Downey went to
Peterborough to visit with his
aunt, Francis Vollett and
cousin David, for a week.
Mr. and Mrs. William
Dickie and Krissa attended
the Polk Festival at Owen
Sound on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Need-
ham visited on Sunday with
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Bruton
at their summer home in
Grand Bend.
Mr. and Mrs. ira Dickie
and Mrs. William Townson
of Sudbury returned last
week from a four week motor
trip to the West Coast. En
route they visited with the
MacIver cousins and other
relatives and friends in Win-
nipeg, Reston and Virden.
They also stayed a few
days at the home of Major
and Mrs. Calvert Townson in
Portage la Prairie and with
Mr. and Mrs. David Trussler
(Wanda Townson) at Ross -
land, H.C.
Relatives and friends were
also visited on Vancouver
Island. They returned via
U.S.A. seeing Yellowstone
Park, Mt. Rushmore and
other interesting places on
the return trip.
On Friday, August 12 Ira,
Elizabeth and Sarah left for
the U.S.A. again to attend
the 50th wedding anniver-
sary on Saturday of the
ladies' first cousin, Mr. and
Mrs. Henry Rowe, of Ply-
mouth, Michigan. This was a
most interesting day, meet-
ing cousins they hadn't seen
for years.
Conference highlights at
Dungannon meeting
The August meeting of the
Dungannon Women's insti-
tute was held on Thursday,
August 4 at the home of Mrs.
Russell Alton. This was the
Resolutions meeting and sev-
enteen members answered
the roll call, A resolution 1
have made to improve our
W.I. There were five visitors.
Mrs. Sam Gibson introduc-
ed the guest speaker, June
Alton of Lucknow, who is
Junior Women's Institute of
Ontario president. June had
attended the A.C.W.W. con-
ference in Vancouver, B.C.
June 19 to 29. She showed
slides and gave the high-
lights of the conference.
Sixty-six countries were rep-
resented and all could speak
English. Donations to pen-
nies for friendship has in-
creased 151 per cent in nine
years. Mrs. Irvin thanked her
purple grove
and presented her with an
Institute spoon.
Mrs. Gibson gave the
motto, Everyday Resolu-
tions.
Ceilia Taylor gave an int-
eresting paper on Resolu-
tions which had been prepar-
ed by Florence Diamond.

Alton, Mrs. Sam Gibson and
Mrs. Elsie Irvin served

Successful Purple Grove picnic draws 70
Mr. and Mrs. Harvie
Thompson and Mr. and Mrs.
Fred Young of Dungannon
have just returned from a
three week trip to the west,
visiting old friends and
neighbors along the way out.
Mr, and Mrs. Randy Mac-
Donald of Timmins are
visiting with Joan's parents.
Mr. and Mrs. H. "Thompson.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Thomp-
son were home for the
weekend.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Green-
wood were supper guests of
Mr. and Mrs. John Farrell
and girls on Sunday.
Teresa, Tania and Tobi
Farrell were overnight
guests on Friday of Jean.
Paul, .Joel and Joy -Fallen
Greenwood.
Mr. and Mrs. F';verrett
Elliott and Keith Elliott of
Ferndale, Michigan are
staving with Mt . and Mrs
Earl Elliott and family for a
few days.
Marretta Hodgins and
Daryl llodgins were Satur-
day supper guests of Mr. and
Mrs. Earl Elliott.
Heather Boyle, now work-
ing in Napanee, was home
for the weekend.
Sam Finnie of Dunville
stayed with Mr, and Mrs.
Francis Boyle and family
this weekend.
Jean Munday and
Madeline MacQueen of
Wallaceburg are staying the
week with Mr. and Mrs.
Francis Boyle and family.
Purple Grove
Community Picnic
Approximately 70 people
gathered at the Purple
Grove Community Centre to
enjoy fun and games and
eats. A well planned pro-
gram proved to be a big suc-
cess for the 1983 picnic. A big
thanks goes to the commit-
tee, Maureen Collins, Bren-
da MacDonald and .Sandra
Forester.
