Husband and wife win at flower show
Austin and Joan Martin of Lucknow
shared the honours at the Lucknow and
District Horticultural Society's 25th anniver-
sary flower show August 10. Joan won the
Beatty Ladder Trophy with the highest
points and most entries in the show while
her husband, Austin earned the Red Rose
l'ea Trophy for his red rose entry judged
best rose in the category.
The oldest exhibitor was Jessie Johnston
and the youngest was Marie Scott.
In spite of a dry hot summer, there was a
lovely display of flowers, plants and vege-
tables. Anniversary cake and ice cream were
served at the tea tables to celebrate the 25th
anniversary of the re -organization of the
Lucknow Society.
Some 23 exhibitors entered 264 entries in
the show held at the Lucknow Legion Hall.
Prize money distributed was $261.50.
Approximately 125 people attended the
bake, vegetable and plant table which netted
over $100.
With the able assistance of the excellent
committee and capable president, the event
was a complete success.

Bowes at a cost of $119.99, and to rent a
postage meter and scale at a cost of $23 per

On March 24 council met to apply to the
Ministry of Transportation and Communica-
tion for supplementary funding subsidy for
the road work to be done in 1983.

On May 16 council discussed an alternate
site for the sewage treatment plan and tile

J. Lennon O'Loughlin
The death of J. Lennon
O'Loughlin of Rochester,
Michigan occurred July 30,
1983 at the Hospice South-
field, Michigan. The eldest
son of the late Joseph and
Mary O'Loughlin, he was
born in Kingsbridge, August
30, 1904 and attended the 9th
school.
On December 19, 1923, the
late Mr. O'Loughlin went to
Detroit for an apprenticeship
in the plumbing trade. In
February 1930 the J. L.
O'Loughlin Plumbing and
Heating Company was foun-
ded.
The late Mr. O'Loughlin
was a former National Direc-
tor of the Mechanical Con-
tractors Association, a mem-
ber and former director of
the Detroit Association, past
president and director of
Mechanical Contractors As-
sociation of Detroit. in busi-
ness the J. L. O'Loughlin
Company was noted for its
quality installations and
square dealings with its cus-
tomers. Mr. O'Loughlin re-
tired in 1971.
The late Mr. O'Loughlin is
survived by his wife Merla
(Reagan) O'Loughlin, daugh-
ters, Mary Anne Cueney of
Birmingham Hills, Merla
Szydlowski of Rochester,
Lynne De Grande of Grosse
Point, Peggy Campbell,
Flint, Michigan and Patti
Ocalla of Florida; sons, Jam-
es L., Troy, Daniel J. of
Dallas, Texas, John of De-
troit and Bill of Boston.
He is also survived by his
sisters, Mrs. John Kinney
(Bernardino) of Kingsbridge,
Mrs. Harry F. Schmidt, Blue
Bell, Pennsylvania and Mrs.
Ed Shea of Berkley. Michi-
gan.
Funeral service was held
from the Desmond Funeral
Home. Requiem Mass was
concelebrated at his former
parish St, Micheals of South-
field by Father Ralph

Council agree to proceed immediately to
have the soil testing done -on two properties
suggested. The properties were not named
in the minutes.
June 1
On June 1 council passed a motion to pay
$500 to Chester Finnigan of Lucknow as an
option to purchase property lying in the
Township of West Wawanosh in the County
of Huron for the purpose of sewage
treatment plant on the part of south one half
lot 13 concession 14, subject to the right of
way to tender. The option was taken until
midnight May 31, 1985.
