Legionnaires headed for playoffs
The Legionnaires, play-
ing their best consecutive
games, defeated Chesley
Texacos 10 - 8, Belmore
Juniors 3 - 2 and then lost 8 -
4 to Palmerston Imperials.
Legionnaires 10 Chesley 8
Designated hitter Brad
Petteplace went four for four
with 2 singles and 2 doubles
as the Legionnaires fought
back to defeat the Texacos.
After letting the Texacos
score five runs in the second
inning to take a 5 - 2 lead, the
Legionnaires came right back
scoring three runs in the
bottom of the second to tie
the score and then score one
in the third, two in the
fourth, one in the fifth, and
one in the sixth for their 10
runs.
Pitchers Cranston and
Todd allowed 10 hits, walked
three and struck out seven.
Legionnaires 3 - Belmore 2
Lucknow finally put back
to back wins together as they
won a close game over the
Belmore Juniors. Legion-
naire pitchers Ross Baird,
Ray Cranston and Hugh
Todd went three innings
apiece and stymied the Bel -
more offence as they only
could manage four hits, four
walks and were struck out
seven times.
The Legionnaires came
from behind again as they
allowed the Juniors to score
one in thefirst and one in the
fourth for a 2 - 0 lead.
A walk to John de Bruyn
was costly in the fifth as he
was sacrificed to second by
Brad Petteplace and then
scored on a Randy Alton fly
ball.
Legionnaires got the tying
run in the sixth and in the
eighth Tom Pegg took a Dave
Eadie pitch for a home run
giving the Legionnaires a 3 -
2 victory.
Palmerston Imperials 8 -
Leglonnalres 4
The Legionnaires winning
streak of two games came to
an end on Sunday night as
the Imperials scored an 8 - 4
victory.
Imperials scored two runs
in the third, one in the fifth,
three in the sixth and two in
the seventh for their 8 runs
and allowed the Legionnaires
to score three runs in the
fifth and one in the eighth.
Pitchers Ray Cranston and
Ross Baird both pitched good
innings, however as the team
has experienced many times
this season, errors are costly.
On Sunday night the Imper-
ials only got three earned
runs off Cranston and Baird.
