Armstrong
Robert Campbell Arm-
strong, formerly of
Lucknow, died in Boissevain,
Manitoba on July 13, 1983 in
his 75th year. He is survived
by his wife Ethel Armstrong
and his son, Robert Arm-
strong of Denfield, Ontario.
He was predeceased by his
daughter, Margorie, Mrs.
Ken Lockerey; Betty (Mrs.
Ron Link ), London; Mrs.
George Davis, Arkona and_,.,
Janet, Mrs. Paul Hamilton,
Boissevain, Manitoba.
Mac Lead
Died in Saskatoon,
Saskatchewan July 17, 1983,
Florence Elizabeth (Lavis)
MacLeod in her 88th year,
wife of the late John
MacLeod, daughter of the
late James and Martha
Lavis.
Survived by two sons.,
Leonard of Saskatoon,
Saskatchewan, Eldon of
Speirs, Saskatchewan, also
several grandchildren.
Predeceased by one son,
Allan.
Survived by one sister
Ada, Mrs. Alex MacLeod, of
Lucknow and two brothers,
Harry Lavis of Lucknow and
Rege Lavis of London.
Funeral service was held
in Saskatoon, with burial in
Speirs, Saskatchewan.

This brought to mind the
partial saying - "Rainbow in
the morning, sailors take
warning." Better fitted for
last Wednesday by replacing
sailors with firemen. The
Ripley fire whistle sounded
twice. Before dinner, it was
a truck fire in the Pine River
area and at nine thirty in the
evening, they were called to
wash gas and oil from a road
in the northwest part of
Huron township.

Wild Flowers
A fine presentation of
slides was enjoyed by 30
ladies at the Ripley Legion
hall last Thursday afternoon
on the topic "Wild Fiowers of
the Bruce". The commen-
tary and showing was given
by Mr. and Mrs. Lindsay
Thornburn of Port Elgin.
It was a special meeting of
the Ripley and District Hor-
ticultural Society convened
by Mrs. John Scott. Mrs.
Roy MacKenzie was the
pianist. A piano in-
strumental was given by
Mrs. Marion Gamble. Mrs.
Walter Black presided with
secretary Mrs. Bette
MacLeod reading the
minutes. Courtesy remarks
were 'given by Mrs. Connie
van der Hoek. Mrs. Olwen
McAuley was the hostess
and she was assisted on the
lunch committee by Mrs.
Marion Gamble and Mrs.
Dorothy Brooks. It was a
most enjoyable afternoon.
DAN WYLDS
Dan Wylds of Ashfield
township and former native
of Huron township died on
Tuesday, ,July 19, 1983, in
Kincardine District Hospital
in his 98th year. Second son
of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Henry Wylds Sr., he was
born on Friday, July 16, 1886,
on lot 19, concession 5, Huron
township. He is survived by
his daughter Doris Wylds of
Toronto and son, Warren
Wylds of Con. 12 west in
Ashfield; also grandchildren
and great grandchildren;
also brother Allan of Toron-
to. He was predeceased by
his wife, Ethel and his son,
Lloyd. The funeral was held
last Thursday afternoon in
the MacKenzie McCreath
Funeral Home in Lucknow
followed by interment in the
family plot in Lochalsh
Cemetery.
Dan was a carpenter and
in the early 1900's he helped
to build the longest wooden
railway bridge in the world
at Camrose, Alberta. After
his return from Western
Canada, he built a number of
houses in this area. One of
these is located in Ripley on
Huron or Main Street, two
blocks south of the main in-
tersection. Over on the sixth
concession west in Huron
township, there still stands a
tree which he told me that he
had transplanted at the age
of 7 years - or 90 years ago.
GLEN FRASER
The funeral for Glen
Fraser of Milton was held at
the MacKenzie McCreath
Funeral Home in Ripley on
Saturday afternoon, July 23,
1983. A native of the fourth
concession west in Huron
township, he was 58. Visita-
tion was at the funeral home
on Friday evening. Burial
was in Ripley Cemetery. He
is survived by his wife,
Katherine ( the former
Kathy Farrell, con. 12 ), one
daughter, one son and a
granddaughter; also two
sisters, Fern, Mrs. Harold
Pollock, of Stratford and
Lois, Mrs. Clarence Pollock,
of Ripley. His parents were
the late Mr. and Mrs. Howell
Fraser of the fourth conces-
sion west in Huron township.
