old man died last Friday in
Allan Gardens in the middle
of Toronto after suffering a
sunstroke when the
temperature reached 95
degrees F - a 49 year high for
Toronto city. If you stop
sweating and your circle of
vision starts to close in then
you are on the way to a
sunstroke. We had two mild
ones in the summer of 1934.
Luckily in the first one we
just got working and
sweating. In the second one
we made it to a shade tree
and recovered in one hour.
One needs to keep the head
covered especially the back
part and the neck if out in the
direct sun.
Sympathy is extended to
Mrs. Judy van Kooten,
operator of the Lynn's Hob-
by and Textile Shop, on the
death of her father in St.
Thomas, this past weekend.
On Monday evening last
week, July 11, Frank Zipfel
of Ripley flew from Toronto
airport to Frankfort in South
West Germany. His mother
who had suffered a severe
stroke is in hospital in
Worms. A week ago Frank
called his wife Rita that he
had arrived and had seen his
mother. On Thursday Rita
called Frank in Worms. In
the talk he felt that his
mother knew that he was
there but she still could not
talk. In the meantime Ripley
folks hope for the best.
Ripley Huron Legion hosted
the Legion District
horseshoe pitching tourna-
ment at the east side of the
Ripley Huron Complex. It
started at ten in the morning
and continued on into the
evening. There were 10 pits
in play.
Also there were two games
of slo-pitch ball — the first in
the afternoon and the second
in the evening. A dance in
the Ripley Huron Complex
with the Glenn Boyd Or-
chestra playing finished the
day.
