Chepstow
humiliates
Lucknow
The Legionnaires suffered
their worst defeat in their
history as they were devast-
ed by the Chepstow Aces by
a score of 18 - 2.
The Aces showed the
Legionnaires how to hit the
hall as they hammered out 21
hits against pitchers Cran-
ston, Todd and Baird.
Lucknow was in the game
for the first inning and the
final three, but the damage
was done in the middle
innings as the Aces scored
their eighteen runs. Aces
scored one in the second,
four in the third, six in the
fourth, two in the fifth, and
five in the sixth.
Lucknow scored their runs
in the third. Randy Guay led
off with a double, Pete
Chisholm got an RBI single
and Doug Stevenson drove
Pete in with an extra base
single.

unknown. The fire was ex-
tinguished.
Ripley firemen who
answered the call were Chief
Ivan Cook, Bob Johnston,
Ray Fuller, Don Peter -
bough, Rod MacDonald,
Brian Pollock, Joe Hodgins,
Bill Robinson, Jack Scott
and Dan MacDonald. For
Dan, a new member of the
Ripley firemen, it was his
first call.
Beverley Villenue, who
suffered a broken bone in her
right forearm in a fall at the
front step of her clothing and
dress shop just east of the
main intersection in mid
June, was able to get the cast
removed a week ago.
Poison hemlock
Former native of Ripley
and retired high school
teacher Gordon Munn of
Bruce Beach read about the
patch of poison hemlock next
door here and described in
this column last Wednesday.
On Thursday morning Gord
was here to get a first hand
'or eye look at the plant and
to determine if a certain
plant growing in the Beach
area was this hemlock. It
was not.
Perhaps Ab Wylds should
keep a few plants growing
for identification purposes.
One picture plant would be
worth 1,000 words to those
who would like to know this
dangerous plant.
Last Wednesday morning,
there was activity at the
Ripley Grain Elevator just
north of Gore Park and the
railway tracks. Constructor
Lloyd Johnston of the
Holyrood area was there
with his back hoe digger and
truck and with his workmen
Bob and Barry Haldenby
and Gary Hedley. The ex-
cavations were dug for the
footings in three places.
Then the cement truck arriv-
ed and the footings were
poured. On top of them will
stand three heavy beams to
act as posts or legs for a steel
frame work to extend the
present steel frame at each
end. And in turn this stand
will then hold two metal
overhead bins or circular
grain silos - one at each end.
