The sidewalk now is to the door, Where fox and bear had dwelt before, With stores, the houses and hotel, Where rich and poor in peace that dwell, And happy are the habitant, In comfort seem and all content, While some here happy seem to be, When nursing children on their knee. As such is life where'er we go, Of wisdom's way that never know, Aspirant reaching out for fame, Behind to leave a cherished name. And some their day .spend writing rhyme, With sense and reason seldom chime, While others write for to amuse, The latter class we must excuse. While pleased to know that some agree, With Lucknow's short, true history, When death that calls us to embark, Of footprints some may see the mark, To those that come in after years, May read of Lucknow's pioneers, And of the life that some had led, Who that in graves are lying dead. And future days that of to pen, Now leave the task to other men, that children's children yet may see, ucknow's cherished pedigree.
