Lodge presented him with 60 year membership jewels. He was devoted to Masonry and his keen inter- est in the craft proved very rewarding to him. His wife, Edith joined the church choir shortly after coming to Lucknow and was closely associated with it throughout her life, serving as choir leader for 45 years. George Joynt has achieved a remarkable record serving as village reeve for some 25 years, his term of office being interrupted for only one year in 1969. Joynt took over operation of the family's apple evap- orating business and the St. Helens farm from his grand- father and father. He sold the farm and orchards in 1973 and since that time has enjoyed semi -retirement de- voting most of his attention to the village's municipal affairs. An astute financier, George has kept a firm hand on the village's purse strings and the village has an envi- able financial position, with only one small outstanding debenture on the Medical Centre. George's proudest achievement has been the establishment of a working co-op`bration between the four municipalities of Ash- field, West Wawanosh and Kinloss Townships and the Village of Lucknow to prov- ide services to the four muni- cipalities that would he too costly for each on its own. This co-operation extends to the Lucknow Medical Centre, the Lucknow Arena. the Lucknow Swimming Pool. the Lucknow Recreation Pro. gram and the Lucknow Fire Department. Just recently the four muncipalities have hired a recreation director to co-ordinate rcc programs in the four muncipalitics. George is married to the former Jessie Pearson of Ethel and they have a family of two daughters, Jane and Kathy. Jessie has played the role of Lucknow's first lady with grace and charm for 25 years garnering the respect of all the village's residents. Ac- tive in her own right, she is a member of several women's organizations, the Lucknow Horticultural Society and is an honorary member of the Lucknow Kinette Club. George and Jessie reside at the former Murdoch res- idence which John .Joynt bought in 1910. George's grandmother lived in the house after her husband's death in 1937. moving there from the house where Wes- ley and Edith lived following their marriage. now owned by George and Lorraine Brophy.
