Ewen Howard Agnew
Ewen Howard Agnew of
Lucknow died at Brucelea
Haven in Walkerton on June
17, 1983 in his 81st year.
A former clerk of the
Village of Lucknow he held
this position for 40 years. A
member of Lucknow Presby-
terian Church, he was also a
charter member of the Luck -
low and District Lions Club.
Born in Lucknow on June
1, 1903, he was the son of
ie late Joseph Agnew and
he former Edith McLellan.
He married the former
'1argaret McCullough of
,,incardine on January 22,.
927. She predeceased him
•n 1980.
Mr. Agnew is survived by
a son, Joe, of Lucknow, three
granddaughters, Judy, Mrs.
Jim Lukas of Walled Lake,
Michigan, Pam of Spirit
River, Alberta and Joanne of
Red Deer, Alberta. Two
great grandchildren, Michele
and Kevin Lukas also sur-
vive.
Besides his wife, he was
predeceased by four broth-
ers, Earl, Lloyd, Clare and
his twin brother, David.
The funeral service was
held from the MacKenzie
and McCreath Funeral Home
in Lucknow on June 20, 1983
at 2 p.m. Rev. Allison
Ramsey of Lucknow Presby-
terian Church conducted the
service.
Pallbearers were Russ
Button, Lloyd Hall, Charlie
Webster, Harvey Houston,
Barry McDonagh and Bill
Ross.
Flower bearers were H. D.
Thompson, Jack Treleaven,
Jim Henderson and William
Porteous.
Burial followed in Green-
hill Cemeterv.
George Ambrose Gamble
George Ambrose Gamble,
a native of Kinloss Town-
ship, died Tuesday, June 14,
1983 in his 70th `year.
Born on July 6, 1913 on
concession 10, Kinloss Town-
ship, he was the son of the
late Joseph Gamble and the
late Sarah Ellen (White)
Gamble.
Besides his wife, Marion,
he is survived by one daught-
er, Mrs. Lorne, (Josephine)
Cronin, Blyth; three sons,
John, Allan and Wilfred, all
of Ripley area; thirteen
grandchildren and five great
grandchildren; two sisters,
Veroneica Garten, Learning -
ton, and Evelyn Smith, Chat-
ham.
He was well known in the
Kinloss -Huron area, where
he spent the early years of
his life.
After his marriage to Mar-
ion (Farmer) MacDonald on
October 17, 1934, he farmed
in the Clinton area for ten
years, after which he settled
on concession 6, Huron
Township on the former
MacLennan farm.
In May, 1962 he retired to
Ripley, where he was Village
Foreman for several years.
He was a chartered mem-
ber of the Knights of Colum
bus, and an active particip-
ant in the Lions Club, as well
as any community project
where the interests of Ripley
were concerned.
He was buried from St.
Anthony of Padua, Kincar-
dine at II a.m. on Thursday,
June 16, 1983, with Father J.
Malone officiating.
Seven grandsons, Mich-
ael, Brian, David. Jeffrey
and Paul Gamble and Torn
and Pat "Cronin, were the
pallbearers.
Ray Fuller, Bill Kempton,
Don MacTavish, Rod Mac-
Donald, Wally Pollock, and
Clayton Nicholson were the
flower bearers.
Interment took place in
Ripley Cemetery.
WMS evening auxiliary goes potluck
The Evening Auxiliary to
the W.M.S. of the Lucknow
Presbyterian Church held a
picnic at the home of Mrs.
W. A. Henderson on June
21.
They enjoyed a delicious
pot luck supper and had
plenty of time to visit. Mrs.
Ronald Forster arranged a
variety number in which
groups of ladies sang new
words to old tunes.
On this lovely warm even-
ing, they chose to remain in
the garden for the meeting.
Mrs. Frank Hawthorne read
a poem, Our Thanks to Thee,
and a prayer.
Mrs. Noble Johnston gave
a meditation entitled, A New
Song. based on Psalm 96.
Twenty members answer-
ed the roll call. Mrs. Austin
Loree presented the topic on
Decolonization in the Pacific
Islands.
