(Photo by Sharon Dietz( Present awards to graduates The Grade 8 Graduation Banquet was held at Brook- side on Thursday, June 23, with Donnybrook U.C.W. catering. Grace was said by Scott Hackett followed by Toast to Flag and Country. Jodie Kerr said a few words of apprecia- tion to the ladies for the bountiful meal. Piano solos were played by Heidi Fillmore, Cathy Dow: and Sheri Smyth. Mr. Don Cameron intro- duced the 38 graduates and presented their diplomas. Heather Storey introduced the guest speaker, Mr. Tony McQuail: who spoke on some of the challenges facing young people today. He also brought greetings and good wishes from the Huron Coun- ty Board of Education in his capacity as a trustee. Marcia Boak thanked Mr. McQuail. Several special awards were presented: Paul Caesar Memorial Award to Most Improved Student in Eng- lish, presented by Joyce Cae- sar, to Sherry Nixon and Marty McQuillin; Proficiency Award, from Dungannon Women's institute, present- ed by Mrs. Winnifred Girvin, to Audrey Bos; Science Aw- ards', from Ashfield Federa- tion of Agriculture and Farm- er's Union, presented by Grant Curran, to Leroy Dougherty; from West Wa- wanosh Federation of Agri- culture, presented by Cecil Cranston to Audrey Bos; Mathematics Awards, from St. Helens Women's Insti- tute, presented by Mrs. Edith Cooper, to Buetta Martin; Public Speaking Award, from Howard and Helen Blake, presented by Mr. Gary Jewitt to Heidi Fillmore; Music Award, from Student's Council, presented by President Sherry Nixon to Leroy Dougherty; History Award, given and presented by Marion Zinn, to Laurie Pentland and Leroy Dough- erty; Citizenship Award, from Benmiller Foresters, presented by Ross Eedy to Christine Simpson; Geog- raph Award, given and pres- ented by Madeline Ander- son, to Christine Simpson. Bars were presented by Mr. Cameron to several stud- ents in the class for out- standing performance in dif- fernt areas. On behalf of the students Angela Millian presented Mr. Don Cameron with a 4gift. Sport Awards were pres- ented by Mrs. Deidre Gra- ham and Mr. Ross Errington to Shelley Good and Kevin Haggitt. The French Award was given and presented by Miss Joanne Bode, to Buetta Martin.
