SIS see film on New Guinea
Mrs. Stuart MacLennan
welcomed the ladies of the
Ashfield W.M.S. to her
home on June 16 for their
meeting.
Mrs. Warren Wylds open-
ed the meeting with a call to
worship. Mrs. Lloyd Collins
gave the devotions, Our Own
Back Yard, reminding every-
one they should find content-
ment in all the things they
are blessed with.
Roll call was answered by
naming a missionary and
where they serve. The offer-
ing was received with Mrs.
Neil MacKenzie giving the
offertory prayer. Profiles of
Malawian Women by Clara
Henderson was reported on
from the Glad Tidings.
The Study Book session
was presented by Mrs. Neil
MacKenzie and Mrs. Warren
Wylds. The people of the
Pacific Islands are going
through a period of decolon-
ization and are striving for
independence, and the
Church is helping them in
many ways.
A short film on Papua New
Guinea was shown. Mrs.
Lloyd Collins, a faithful
member of the W.M.S. was
presented with a Life Mem-
bership Certificate.
Mrs. Allan MacDonald
capably handled the business
portion of the meeting.
UCW hear about medical mission
The general meeting of the
Lucknow U.C.W. was held in
the fellowship room on Tues-
day, June 13 at 8 p.m. with
an attendance of 46.
The Leadership division
Was in charge of the meeting
with Mrs. Robert Irwin in
charge. Mrs. Harvey Hous-
ton accompanied the hymns.
Mrs. Eldon Bradley read
the scripture, where Paul
describes his heavenly vision
to King Agrippa. The medi-
tation, I was not disobedient
to the heavenly vision, was
given by Mrs. Ross Shiells.
Mrs. Harvey Webster
played two enjoyable piano
instrumentals. Mrs. Bill Bo-
gues read an interesting
article from the Exchange
magazine describing the
well, the meeting place for
all the activities of the
women when they attend the
World Council of Churches in
Vancouver this summer.
Mrs. Robert Irwin intro-
duced the guest speaker,'
Mrs. Jack McKim of Luck -
now who showed slides from
her recent trip to Honduras
this winter, along with an
interesting commentary.
Mrs. McKim is a register-
ed nurse and she spent two
weeks at a Medical Mission
in Honduras. This mission
was sponsored by the Med-
ical Group Missions of the
Christian Medical Society,
and it consisted of over 120
doctors, dentists and nurses
dedicated to improving the
quality of the Third World
Countries. During the time
this team was in Honduras,
almost 130,000 patients were
seen. Following an interest-
ing discussion period, Mrs.
Gordon Cayley thanked Mrs.
McKim.
Mrs. Vernon Hunter pres-
ided for the business portion
of the meeting. Following the
business and convener re-
ports, Mrs. Hunter closed
with prayer.
Ifonour non -grandmothers
The Kinloss-Kairshea
Women's Institute held their
Sunshine Sister meeting on
Thursday, June 16 at 7 p.m.,
beginning with a pot luck
dinner. Mrs. Roely de Boer,
Mrs. Alie Van Meeteren,
Mrs. Hank Hartemink and
the Sunshine Committee
were hostesses.
Mrs. Leonard Clarke wel-
comed members and guests
to the meeting and read a
poem, A package of seeds.
Mrs. Bob Gilchrist read the
scripture.
Mrs. Perrin Lowry, Bruce
South District president,
brought greetings from
Bruce South.
Mrs. Donald Maclntyre
read the minutes and com-
munications including a let-
ter from Huron West District
stating that they support the
Kairshea resolution re- pota-
to packaging and gave some
suggestions as to how pota-
toes could be packaged to
better preserve their quality.
Mrs. Farish Moffat reported
that she had obtained ad-
dresses from the Ministry of
Agriculture office in Walker-
ton and will send out more
letters in regard to potato
packaging.
Mrs. Leonard Clarke re-
ported that Kairshea will be
going to see The Miracle
Worker in July at the Grand
Bend Theatre. In August
Kairshea will entertain
guests from Lucknow Senior
and Junior Institutes, Holy -
rood and Whitechurch Insti-
tutes.
Mrs. Bob Gilchrist report-
ed on the float for the
Jamboree parade. Mrs.
Leonard Clarke announced
that a shower would be held
in the Institute hall for Carol
Buchmeier.
Mrs. Harvey Houston
presented Mrs. Harold How-
ald, Past President, with a
gift of appreciation for her
leadership during the past
two years. Everyone sang
Happy Birthday to Kathy as
it was her Birthday.
Everyone was led in th
Bird Dance by Mrs. Bob
Gilchrist.
A reading, Housekeeping
can kill you if you let it, was
given -by Mrs. Ted Collver.
Mrs. Evan Keith suggest-
ed the ladies should honour
the Non -Grandmothers as
every other year Grandmoth-
ers are honoured. Mrs. Brain
Doelman gave a reading, A
Non -Grandmother Is. Mrs.
Allister Hughes received a
geranium for being the old-
est Non -Grandmother. Mrs.
Ted Collyer had the most
non -grandchildren. Mrs.
Harvey Lavis won for the
non -grandchild the farthest
away. Mrs. Donald Macln-
tyre was the Non -Grand-
mother whose birthday was
closest to June 16, and Mrs.
Murray Keith had a wedding
anniversary closest to that
date. Mrs. Perrin Lowry was
the most prestigious Non -
Grandmother.
The roll call was answered
by each member telling who
her Sunshine Sister had been
throughout the year and
presenting her with a gift.
Each guest also received a
gltt. Mrs. Farish Moffat gave
the courtesies and the meet-
ing closed.
