HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Lucknow Sentinel, 1983-06-22, Page 3community news David Pickard a student at Lucknow Central Public School who has a genetic heart condition led the parade of wheelchairs down the main street Monday morning as residents from Plnecrest Manor participated in the fifth annual Heart Jamboree to raise money for the Ontario Heart Foundation. Students at the school assisted the 20 residents who enjoyed an ice cream cone at the Superscoop before ' returning to Pinecrest. Pushing David is Debbie Nicholson. The residents raised S200 in pledges for the Heart Foundation. This is the third year they have participated In the Heart Jamboree. [Photo by Sharon Dietz) Lucknow Sentinel, Wednesday, June 22, 1983—Page 2 Brookside kindergarten go to the zoo By Nancy Hunter, Christina Simpson Julie Thompson On Wednesday, June 8 Mrs. Farrish and Miss Alton took the Kindergarten class to the Grand Bend Zoo then enjoyed the same trip on Thursday with the other kindergarten class. Wednesday was busy be- cause Mrs. Jefferson's grade 1 class went to Wingham to the hospital and Zehrs. They received samples of cookies, pop, meat and watermelons. They also received bakers' hats from Zehrs. Parents who went were Mrs. Men- ary, Mrs, Culbert and Mrs. Park. After they took the tours they ate lunch at the park. On Tuesday. June 'a Mrs. Young and her grade 1 class went to Goderich to the hospital and Zehrs and later had a picnic lunch at Harbour Park. They were accompan- ied by Mrs. Black, Mrs. Bieman and Mrs. Bere. The two grade 1 classes and Mrs. Carroll's class went to the Pine River Cheese Factory on Friday, June 10. On Friday also, Mr. Er- rington's grade 5 class went bowling in Goderich. The top player for the girls was Brenda Haggitt with 134 points and the top boy was Bobby Thomson with 140. The winning team was Shauna Andrew, Michael Millian, Tanya Turner, .Tim Moss, Kevin Baltzer and Kirk Newhbok with 475 points. After they went bowl- ing, they toured the Huron Historical Jail in Goderich. On Thursday, June 16 Mr. Errington's class went on a hike and cook out. They walked along the stream back to Murray Irvin's bush. When they returned, they played a T -ball game. Mr. Hazlitt's grade 7 class toured the Bruce Nuclear Power Development and saw a film, A Piece, of Sunshine, showing various forms of energy. They had a bus tour of the site and also Seagull Point. On the way back, they went to the Pine River Cheese Factory. They saw the staff making curds and a slide presentation. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Glover of Sarnia spent the weekend and Mr. and Mrs. Steve Irwin and Cody of Lucknow spent Saturday, Father's Day with Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Milligan. On Sunday over 20 mem- bers of the St. Mary's Presbyterian Church congre- gation attended the Sunday Service at Chalmers Presby- terian Church to hear Stud- ent Minister Rod Lamb. Mr. Lamb was a member of the St. Marys congregation prior to being posted to White- church by the Board of World Missions of the Presbyterian Church in Canada September 1, 1982. After the service he and his wife, Debbie attend- ed the annual camp out at Camp Kintail. On Monday pupils from Whitechurch at Lucknow school took the history bus trip to Midland. They were Tony Falconer, Stephen Tif- fin, Lana Craig, Tracy Schneller and Darlene Schneller. Mrs. Symon de Boer, Lucknow, and Mrs. Kragt and daughter, Ingrid of B.C. visited Wednesday with Mr. and Mrs. John de Boer and family. Mrs. Ron Nicholson, Erin and Ryan of Strathroy spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. John de Boer and family and attended the birthday celebration for Mrs. Symon de Boer. A birthday party was held on Sunday for Mrs. Symon de Boer at Brookside Public School.
