On Tuesday and Wednes- day Mr. and Mrs. Joe Sher- ritt of Calgary were in the village hunting information of the Tumath family as Mrs. Sherritt was a daughter of Lloyd Humath. Victor Emer- son was able to inform them that the grandfather's farm was north of Whitechurch, second farm north of railroad on the left. When the farm was sold, they moved to the house in the village now owned byWilford Clipperton. They were also trying to locate the burial place of their ancestors. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Rin- toul and Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Rintoul, St. Helens attended the Holstein show at Clinton on Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Rin- toul were at a Hereford sale at Guelph on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Gary Rin- toul. Carol, Kimberley and Kevin were at a Charolais Brookside students place at field day •from page 13 also making whale booklets. Theydid some research in the library for the information. The children are also learn- ing how to count money. Room 3 pupils are dividing into groups and doing puppet plays for the rest of the class. The University of Waterloo and Bridal shower A combined Farrell - MacDonald shower was held in the Ripley Legion Hall on May 22 for bride elect, Carolyn MacDonald. After a word of welcome from Dianne Gamble, the crowd was treated to a sneak preview of a fashion show called "Fantastic Fantasy Fashions". Dianne Gamble and Susan Cliffe read the commentary while 13 models strutted their stuff. As usual, the bathing beauty Miss Lac Lachigan stole the show. Other top names featured were Prissy Snooze, Sarah Sucker and Flossy Belle Snap. Marian Gamble then led a sing song, and Donalda Pollard read the address. Nieces of the bride, Shea, Stefani, Shantel and Meg presented her with many lovely gifts. Carolyn thanked everyone, and a delicious lunch was served. Ripley District School news BY JANICE NEEDHAM During the past week the Consumer Studies 214 went on a shopping expedition to Zehrs. The class prepared shop- ping lists of a week's menu for a family of four. They combed the aisles for prices and calculated the total cost of one family's meals. Also, a contest was held to find the most expensive food and non-food item. Ian Culbert and Lori Weber were the winners. Special thanks to Mrs. McMillan who led the group. Commencement This year's commence- ment is being held on June 24 at 8:00 in the R.D.S. gym- nasium. Prom This year's King and Queen of R.D.S. were Harold Peet and Sandra Dawson. the Grand Valley Mathemat- ics Association sponsored it. Monday, June 6 was a P.D. day. The teachers were discussing class organiza- tion, promotions and curricu- lum for next year. The nurse has been giving shots for measles, mumps and german measles. Regional Field Day was held on Thursday, June 2 at Brookside. Schools particip- ating included Colborne, Robertson, Holmesville and Brookside. Brookside stud- ents achieved the following results: seniors, Kevin Hag- git, 18 points; Shelley Good, tied with Tracy Thorncroft from Robertson with 15 points; intermediate, Steph- anie Durnin, 16 points; jun- ior, Philip Luedeman, 15 points; Jeff Ireland, 9 points; Julie Pentland, 16 points; midget, Rachel Fairbairn, 10 points. Visitors on Sunday with Doris Wilkens were Glenna and Crystal Wilkens, and Ron Steffen of Kitchener and Mrs. Douglas Ross and Michael of Wingham. On Thursday, Mrs. Marge Kopas of B.C. visited Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Beecroft. Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Bee- croft visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Kirk Beecroft and family of Exeter. On Sunday morning Roel- yn de Boer went to Toronto airport to meet her sister-in- law, Mrs. Pietie Kragt and daughter, Ingrice of B.C. The community extends a warm welcome to Mrs. Kragt who is well known here. Mrs. Terry Rutledge, Courtney, Jason, Shawn of Auburn visited on Monday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Webster. On the weekend Mr. and Mrs. George Webster quietly celebrated their 35th wed- ding anniversary. Whitechurch U.C.W. The Whitechurch United Church Women held their meeting, May 31 at the home of Mrs. Elmer Sleightholm. The theme of the meeting was The Beauty of Nature. Mrs. Agnes Farrier read a poem on nature. Agnes Farrier told how Beth Parker went to Africa with African Enterprise. She went out with no pay and worked among the natives vaccinating children. Mrs. Farrier also read about Ventures in Missions. Five United Church congre- gations in Woodstock com bined resources and raised $9000 to help folks in need in the area. Ten members answered the roll call by naming a missionary on furlough and naming their field.
