Wins afghan in Dungannon Explorers' draw

The Dungannon Explorer
group held a draw for an
afghan on Tuesday, May 31.
Angela Glenn was the lucky
winner.
A baby shower was held
last Monday evening at Dun-
gannon United Church for
Robbie Roberts and Mom,
Karen. Diane Park was chair -
lady for the evening. Jean
Elliott favoured with piano
selections. Lila and Annabel
Stewart sang and conducted
contests.
Irene Hasty R.N. of Strat-
ford was home for the
weekend with her father,
Lorne.
Debbie Nivins, daughter of
Allister and Carol Nivins,
was a patient in Wingham
Hospital recently with aller-
gies.
Mark Kerr celebrated his
fifth birthday on Sunday with
a family celebration. He is a
son of Gary and Yvonne
Kerr.
Congratulations to three of
our area women who were
appointed to offices on the
Huron Historical Society at
the annual meeting held in
Wroxeter recently. Bessie
McNee was named as public-
ity officer while Wiletta
McWhinney and Marian
Zinn were named to the
council.
Annabel Stewart, Goder-
ich, Dianna Leddy, and Betty
Errington of London and
Leola Chisholm of Cam-
bridge enjoyed a four day
bus trip to New York City,
recently.
Mrs. Bill Almond and
daughter, Jane, R. R. 4
Meaford, visited with aunt,
Beatrice Payne and family.
Leola Chisholm spent a
week's holidays with her
parents, Len and Olive Chis-
holm last week.
Dungannon United Church
Rev. Roberts spoke on
"Amos, the Backwoods Pro-
phet".
The children's story was
illustrated with a box of
marigolds which the minister
used to demonstrate that
there are many things we do
not notice at first but for
which we should be thankful.
Plans for the June 12
church picnic were announc-
ed in the bulletin.

The June meeting of South
Kinloss W.M.S. was held
Wednesday evening, June 1
at the home of Mrs. Fraser
MacKinnon. Twenty-three
members were present.
Mrs. J. Needham presided
for the first part of the
meeting. The Bible Study on
Anger was ably taken by
Mrs. Alvin Schmidt. Read-
ings were given by Mrs.
Needham and Mrs. Harold
Austin. Mrs. Harold Camp-
bell played three favourite
hymns on her mouth organ.
Mrs. Jack Needham very
capably continued the Mis-
sion Study on the South Sea
Islands. Using a map, she
explained the work on the
different islands. In many
areas the people are 80 to 90
per cent Christian. There are
strong family ties. Many
Presbyterian ministers are
members of government.
President, Mrs. Evan
Keith, presided and a good
report of the Synodical held
in Owen Sound, April 19 and
20 was given by Mrs. Harry
Lavis. Mrs. Ira Dickie gave a
brief report of the Maitland
Presbyterial Society meeting
in Teeswater, May 9. Rev.
Glenn Inglis of Blantyre,
Malawi, spoke and showed
pictures.
Mrs. Dickie also expressed
her thanks to the group for
nominating her to receive the
Honourary Life Membership
Certificate, which was pres-
ented to her at the Presby-
terial by Mrs. Evan Keith.
Committees were named
to look after lunches to be
served after the evening
Anniversary Service June 12
and after the July 3 - 10 a.m.
church service.
A cleaning bee at the
church is planned for June
10.
Mrs. Herb Buckton gave
the closing prayer. Lunch
was served by the hostess
and directors, Mrs. J. Need-
ham, Mrs. H. Austin and
Mrs. A. Schmidt.
St. Helens institute honours
grandmothers at June meeting
Grandmothers were hon-
oured at the June meeting of
St. Helen's W.I., held in the
Hall on Thursday evening.
Eighteen members answered
the roll call, An advantage of
life in grandmother's day.
During the business ses-
sion, the branch's participa-
tion in several upcoming
events, was discussed. It was
decided, again, this year, to
present an award to a gradu-
ating Grade 8 student at
Brookside Public School.
Nine members hope to at-
tend Lucknow Branch 7Sth
anniversary on June 14. The
branch will also be helping in
the food booth on July 2 of
Jamboree Weekend.
Mrs. Harold Gaunt,
branch resolutions convener,
gave an informative and en-
tertaining report on the
officers Conference she at-
tended at Waterloo, in May.
An excellent report was
also given by Mrs. Lloyd
Moffat, on the Huron West
District Annual meeting,
held in Wingham on May 30.
Mrs. Moffat also conducted a
contest for grandmothers.
Mrs. Gordon McPherson
won a prize for having the
most grandsons and Mrs.
Ross Errington won for the
most granddaughters. All
grandmothers were present-
ed with lovely corsages,
made by Beatrice McQuillin
and Mrs. Ross Errington.
Current events, compiled
by Mrs. Robert Aitchison,
were read by Mrs. Ross
Errington.
Following the adjournment
of the meeting, a delicious
lunch was served by hostess-
es, Mrs. Frank McQuillin,
Beatrice McQuillin, Mrs.
Lloyd Moffat, and Mrs. Ivan
Clark.
South Kinloss church welcomes members

South Kinloss Presbyter-
ian Church congregation ex-
tends a welcome to the new
members who joined the
churcn on Sunday . They are
Wendy Forster. Katrina
Howald, Helen Maclntyre
and Anne Reid. Ken Reid
transferred his membership
from Lucknow.
Sunday. .lune 12 South
Kinloss Presbyterian Church
will hold its 127th anniver-
sary service. Mr. Graham
MacDonald is the guest
speaker. Graham is no stran-
ger as he was raised on the
fourth concession. He has
been attending Knox Col-
lege.
Mr. and Mrs. William
Calvert of Trochu, Alberta
visited on Saturday with Mr.
and Mrs. Peter Edisbury.
Mrs. Calvert is the former
Marian MacDonald. a cousin
of the late Mrs. Walter
MacKenzie.
Mr. and Mrs. Ira Dickie
spent Friday and Saturday
with Mr. and Mrs. Douglas
Dickie and Erin of Markdale.
M'r. and Mrs. Jack Need-
ham attended a 50th year
class reunion of London
Normal School on Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. William
Dickie and Krissa spent the
weekend at their cottage at
Hope Bay.
Mrs. Fraser MacKinnon
attended a nurses' class
reunion in Atwood at the
home of Mrs. Jack Brough-
ton on Saturday.
a baseball bat while playing
ball in Goderich.
Howard Blake, school sec-
retary, is in University Hos-
pital this week undergoing
tests. Debbie MacGillivray is
supplying for him.
Mrs. Carroll's class have
been doing a unit on space
which they are enjoying.
Several loads of pea stone
were dumped under the
playgrounds, swings and ball
diamond bases. This soaks
up the puddles and makes
playing easier.
Debbie Nivins was in
Wingham Hospital with al-
lergy reactions. Debbie is at
home now.
Douglas Culbert found a
turtle in a swamp down by
the river and he took it to
school and his class is watch-
ing it.
