Ripley Huron grade 2 class makes bread
REPORTERS
TRACEY WEBER,
VICTORIA
PLOWRIGHT
Mrs. Duggan in the library
at Ripley Huron Central
School would like to thank all
the many people who con-
tributed Wintario Tickets.
The deadline is now over.
Hopefully, this program will
be offered again next year.
Mrs. MacDonald and Mrs.
Collins' grade two class had
two visitors last week.
Maureen Collins came on
Tuesday and made
homemade bread and buns.
She showed ns how to mix
the ingredients and knead
the dough. We watched the
yeast work as the dough
rose. We each made a bun
which we watched cook. Boy
did they smell and taste
good! We even made
homemade butter to put on
our rolls.
On Thursday, Judy
Snobelen, Troy's Mom,
visited the classroom. She
brought a grinder, soldering
iron, flux, glass cutter and
some glass. She showed us
how she makes stained glass
ornaments. She made a pret-
ty red apple for us to see. We
all had a chance to use a
glass cutter. We found it
hard to cut through the glass
and tap it gently so it would
break where we made the
cut. Mrs. Snobelen had many
pretty stained glass or-
naments to show us.
Thank you Mrs. Collins
and Mrs. Snobelen. Now we
appreciate the work and
time it took the pioneers and
others to make bread and
stained glass decorations.
Mess Concert `Kids are
Music'
The Junior Choir spent two
enjoyable evenings last
week on Wed. and Thurs.,
May 25 and 26 performing in
the 'Kids are Music' concert.
The concert was held in the
Kincardine Presbyterian
Church. Along with our
choir, the choirs from Huron
Heights, W.E. Thompson,
Elgin Market and Ripley
District Schools performed.
The Junior Choir worked
hard to prepare for this con-
cert. For those who attended
they can appreciate the ef-
fort these 39 students put for-
th. The Junior Choir per-
formed their individual
pieces, and mass pieces
splendidly.
The Choir along with Mrs.
Lowry, accompanist, Mrs.
MacDonald and Mrs. Ellis -
directors can be con-
gratulated on their great job.
At the concert, Mrs.
Dodds, the director organiz-
ed a surprise guest choir.
consisting of area teachers.
They sang two songs 'Kids
are Music' and `Harmonia
Mundi'. From our school
four teachers joined the
choir, Mr. Stanley, Mme.
Ledoux, Mrs. J. MacDonald
and Mrs. Ellis. This
teacher's choir was an en-
joyable part of the Concert.
The Junior Choir especial-
ly thanks Mrs. Shirley Dodds
for her work in organizing
this unique musical ex-
perience.
Junior Choir
The Junior Choir will be
performing twice in June.
Sun., June 12 at 8:00 p.m. in
St. Andrew's United Church -
Ripley, and on Wed., June 22
at lunch hour in Huron Villa
Lodge Ripley.
Grade Four Field Trip
On Tues., May 24 the
pupils from Mrs. Peter-
baugh's grade four class
along with eight mothers,
Mr. Stanley, and Mrs. Peter-
baugh participated in a field
trip to Black Creek Pioneer
Village and Toronto Interna-
tional Airport.
At the, village we were
given a two-hour guided
tour. The children ex-
perienced first-hand what
life was like over a hundred
years ago.
At the airport, Mrs.
Stanley, a stewardess with
Air Canada, arranged for us
to board a 747 Air Canada
jet. This was the first time
that many of the pupils had
seen the inside of a jumbo
jet. We climbed to the top of
the parking building to view
the arrival and departure of
many planes from various
airlines.
On the way home the
highlight was supper at Mac -
Donald's in Orangeville.
We would like to thank our
chaperones, Mrs. Stanley,
our capable bus -driver, and
all our classmates who
bought hot-dogs, for making
this day enjoyable and pro-
fitable,
