Errors are coaly

Chepstow Aces defeated
the Lucknow Legionnaires on
Sunday, May 22 by a score of
7 3,
The Aces opened the scor-
ing in the first, scoring one
run, The Legionnaires even-
ed the score quickly at their
first bat, when Ray Cranston
hit a double, then Randy
Guay driving him home when
the'Aces committed an error.
The fourth inning was
costly as a combination of
wants, errors by the Legion-
naires allowed the Aces to
score four unearned runs, \to
take a 5 - 1 lead. Legion-
naires got one run in the
bottom of the fifth and
another in the sixth. The
Aces scored two more runs,
one in the sixth and the
eighth to defeat the Legion-
naires for the second time.
Ross Baird went the dist-
ance allowing nine hits, strik-
ing out four and walking
four. Ace pitcher Dan Kelly
allowed eight hits, walked
none and struck out nine.
BP's Dave Burns Shuts Out
Legionnaires

batters and allowed only
three hits, to shut down the
Legionnaires offense. For the
second time this season. The
Legionnaires first shutout
was to the Chesley Texacos.

Wednesday in Collingwood.
Visiting with Mr. and Mrs.
Ted Collyer last week were
Mr. and Mrs. Mike Verchi-
mak of Flushing, Michigan
and Mr. and Mrs. Graham
Pinkney of Ajax and son,
Glyn from Calgary.
Mr. and Mrs. Dick Mc-
Quillin visited on Sunday
with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon
McQuillin of Sarnia and Mr.
and Mrs. Hill Duke of
Corunna.

Burns got help from his
offense early in the game, as

0 lead, After the first inning,
Legionnaire Ross Baird set-
tled down allowing just three
hits in the last eight innings.
HP Neil Rieman extended the
score by hitting a home run
with a runner on to end the
scoring.

Farmers are trying to seed crops

Farmers have been busy
around Langside trying to
get their seeding done be-
tween showers.
Karen and Liane Young
were two of the 85 members
of Lucknow School Concert
Band who went on a band
trip, leaving Lucknow school
on Tuesday morning. They
played at Exeter Public
School and Biddulph Public
School on Tuesday and stay-
ed at a hotel in London that
night. Wednesday they play-
ed at two schools in London
and at the Victoria band shell
in the evening, On Thursday
they played at Otterville
Public School and at Victory
Memorial Public School in
Ingersoll. On Friday they
played at Southbridge Public
School in Ingersoll and Nor-
wich Public in Norwich, ar-
riving home Friday evening.
It was a busy schedule, but
they all enjoyed it.
Lillian Young returned
home last week after a two
week holiday at Myrtle
Beach, South Carolina. She
accompanied her son, Mr.
and Mrs. Donald Young,
Kevin, Brian and Jessica and
Jane's mother, Mrs. Max-
well, They had real nice
weather with temperatures
around 80 degrees both
weeks and the holiday was
much enjoyed.
A benefit dance was held
two weeks ago for Mr. and
Mrs. Ian Thomas and family
who lost their barn by fire. A
large crowd attended and an
enjoyable evening was spent.
They are now having a
driving shed erected on the
farm.
Mrs. Russell Young spent
an afternoon visiting her
mother in Newmarket a short
time ago.
Sympathy of the commun-
ity is extended to relatives
and friends of Graham Mof-
fat, who passed away at the
Wingnarn Nursing Horne on
Thursday, May 19 in his 83rd
year. He lived for many years
on the sixth of Culross, just
at the Culross -Kinloss boun-
dary, where he farmed and
also built barns. His family
were well known in this com-
munity.
The Whitechurch Youth
Group held their final meet-
ing for the season on Friday
evening, May 20 in the form
of a campfire and wiener
roast on the beach at Mr. and
Mrs. John Bell's cottage.

Family shower honours June bride,

A family shower was held
Friday evening at Nile for
bride elect, bebbie Buchan-
an, hosted by her aunts,
Valerie Vanderburg, Marion
Hodges and Brenda Vander -
burg, A community shower
for the Colborne area was
held on Sunday at Carlow
hall. Debbie will marry Bruce
Brindley on Saturday, June
18.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Rice,
Grosse Point Woods, Michi-
gan and Gail Farmer, Ann
Arbor, Michigan visited with
Mel Jones recently.
Congratulations to Jim and
Deb Robertson on the birth
of their son, Cory James on
May 10, a brother for Jullian,

and Mrs. Craig Kerslake
(nee Peggy Young) who were
married recently at Christ
Anglican Church, Port Al-
bert. Their reception was
held in Blyth on Saturday
night.
Margaret Mole has been
staying this past week with
her daughter, Nancy and
Jack Phillips and family at
Mensal), while her husband,
Ben is a patient in University
Hospital, London, Doug
Mole of Edson, Alberta, flew
home last week to visit with
his dad.

Aldham of Goderich visited
Dwight and Marybelle Aid -
ham and family at Inglewood
on May 22. Alice Scott of
Helgrave accompanied them
to Caledon to visit her
brother, Finlay Shackleton,
On May 28 Mary -went with
Jean Carruthers to visit
Jean's mother, Florence
Stothers in Parkwood Hospit-
al, London. Mary also visited
with her son, John, while in
London and Jean visited with
Mr. and Mrs. John Carruth-
ers.
Trevor Chambers, son of
Claire (McWhinney) Cham-
bers, is a patient in St.
Joseph's Hospital, London,
as a result of an accident
while visiting in Goderich.
Trevor and a group of neigh-
bourhood children were play-
ing when Trevor in some
manner was hit on the face
with a bat, He suffered a
broken cheek bone, but the
eye, thought to be damaged,
will be okay.
Dungannon Kinettes
The Kinettes held their
May meeting at the home of
Sharon Baltzer. Special guest
for the evening was zone co-
ordinator, Darlene Doupe
who assisted with the elec-
tion of the 1983-84 executive.
Following the business
meeting, everyone enjoyed
dabbling in ceramics with
Kinette Sharon demonstrat-
ing the proper procedures.
On May 16, Kinette clubs
from Clinton, Goderich and
Dungannon took park in a
volleyball tournament at
Robertson School in Goder-
