Purple Grove farmers busy
seeding their crops
Although most of the men
of the Purple Grove area are
busy at seeding the land, the
women still find time for
hospitality and visiting.
Fran Farrell was hostess
for the St. Andrews U.C.W.
fleeting at her home on the
12th Concession last Tues -
.lay.
Sandra Forster attended
the wake of Mr. W.F. Mac-
Donald of Lucknow. Mr.
MacDonald was 95 years old.
Last Wednesday afternoon
the Purple Grove Women's
Institute gave a birthday
party at the Pine Crest Nurs-
ing Home in Lucknow. All
the residents of the home
whose Birthdays were in the
month of May were
honoured with flowers and a
birthday cake.
Margaret Robertson who
was an active member of
Purple Grove Institute for
many years was also
honoured.
The program included
ggroupp singing of many old
familiar songs, a skit by
Irene Boyle and a song by
Joyce Farrell and her two
small daughters Tania, age
five and Tobi Kay, age three.
Two Purple Grove men,
Don Robertson on the guitar
and Aurel Armstrong on the
violin, rendered some fine
"old time" music - setting
toes tapping in young and old
alike. The audience ap-
preciated their taking time
out from their work for this
purpose.
Supper guests with Doug
and Shirley MacDonald on
Sunday were Barry and
Susan Cliffe and children
Brian and Shannon. Last
week Andrew MacDonald
was surprised to find a pig
wandering down the 12th
Concession. He penned it up
and located the owner who
lived West of Ripley Road.
Howard and Marjorie
Thompson of Ripley have
been staying out on the farm
with their son Bert for the
last week. Howard is helping
with the seeding of the land.
Gladys Mason and Donald
and Anne McCosh have been
helping out at son Dick Mc -
Cosh's for the same reason.
It's nice to have them back
in Purple Grove.
Marjorie Thompson and
Isabel Brooks attended a
quilting in Kinlough at Eva
Nicholson's house.
On Monday Marjorie
represented the St. Paul's
Anglican Church, Ripley at
the Anglican Church Synod
in London.
Barbara and Allen Brown,
of London, spent the
weekend with Barbara's
parents, Jim and Isabel
Brooks.
The Purple Grove Bible
Study Group met in Ripley
last Tuesday at the home of
Joyce Macpherson.
Catherine Collins enter-
tained granddaughters
Christy and Kelly
McGillivray last weekend.
On Sunday afternoon
Catherine attended the
Grand Bend Horticulture
Societys' Flower Show.
On Thursday evening,
Gladys Arnold hosted the
local chapter of the Bruce
County Genealogical Society
in her home.

returned home from the
hospital after an unfortunate
farm accident dislocated his
shoulder.

son visited with Reverend
George Sach who was
visiting with Don and
Margaret Thompson and son
Jeremy.
Visitors with Harvey and
Wilda on Saturday evening
were Fred and Donna Young
of Dungannon.
Last week Marion and Bob
Emerson had as their
guests, cousins Marianne
Kemp of Mt. Clemens,
Michigan and Shirley Kemp
of Detroit, Michigan.
