Kinlough 4Hmember wins at Bruce regional competition

Anne and Eric attended the
4-H financial Management
Regional Competition for
Bruce County at the Mary
Immaculate School at Chep-
stow on Saturday. Mrs, G.
Haldenby and Sandy Mc -
Ewan led the Silver Lake
Club.
We congratulate Lea -Anne
Haldenby who placed first in
the competition andwon
silver wafers valued at
5150.00 and a plaque donat-
ed by the Farm Credit Cor-
poration at Walkerton. She
also achieved advance hon-
ours in 4-H homemaking
clubs.
Visitors with Mr. and Mrs.
Bert Nicholson were Mr. and
Mrs. Norman Lloyd of North
Bay and Jamie Langford of
Woodstock.
Sympathy is extended to
Bishop William A. Towns-
hend of London in the
sudden death of his wife,
Kathleen, at St. Joseph's
Hospital on Sunday, April
17. The funeral service was
on Wednesday, April 20 at 11
a.m, at the Church of the
Redeemer in London.
Rev, and Mrs. Townshend
and their two children, El-
eanor and John came here to
begin his Christian Ministry
to the parish of Bervie, Kin-
garf and Kinlough. They
endeared themselves in each
congregation and there has
always been a close bond of
friendship. He was called to
the Church of Redeemer in
London from here. Mrs.
Townshend was the former
Kathleen Elliott, In the past
five months three sisters
have passed away; on Nov-
ember 2, 1982 Mary (Mrs.
Karl Boyle) and on March 26,
1983 Jean (Mrs. Roy
Sweeny).
Last September Bishop
and Mrs. Townshend were at
Kingarf for the baptism of
their great grandchild, Anna
Kathleen, daughter of Rev.
and Mrs. Peter Townshend,
rector of Kingarf, Pinkerton
and Walkerton.

Bantam A hockey activities
drew to a close on Thursday
with a trip to a Kitchener
Rangers playoff game, Ev-
eryone enjoyed the game, a 4
- 2 win by 'the Rangers which
tied their series with Sault
Ste. Marie at four points
each. Special thanks to the
Ladies Auxiliary for Winter
Sports for their financial
assistance and to Ron Alton
who volunteered his time as
wheelman for the tour.
The following summary
would indicate that the team
had a successful year. The
team posted 19 wins, 11
losses and six ties for a 61.
win percentage, The players
rated the playoff loss to
Teeswater, the season low
and the C -DD Division
Championship at Harriston,
the high point.
Through the season, the
team scored 172 goals for a
4.8 goals per game average.
Scoring leaders were Dan
Gilchrist at 2,82 ppg; Chris
Irwin at 2.38 ppg; and Dar-
ren McKim, who worked his
way to a career high, at 1.74

ray joining veterans Jeff
Gibson, Andy Grazier and
Donnie Murray on the blue -
line, the team held the oppo-
sition to 136 goals for a 3.8
goals against average,

christ and manager George
Gibson, would like to thank
each player for his cooper-
ation and hard work. A
special thank you to Captain
Brad Priestap and assistants
Jeff Gibson and Chris Irwin
for their leadership and dedi-
cation to the game.

Owen Sound is a son. Also
surviving are John, Betty
Jean, Mary, Jim, Barbara,
Peggy, Nancy and Bill. She
was predeceased by Eleanor.
Interment was in Mount
Pleasant Cemetery.
The Townshends had held
"Open House" on the occa-
sion of their diamond wed-
ding anniversary, two years
ago.
Mr, and Mrs. Arthur Phil-
lips returned to Eonthill after
spending time with Mrs.
Maulden and Keith.
The Reverend Stanley G.
Tomes and Mrs. Tomes (the
former Doris Lloyd, daughter
of Mrs. Pearl Lloyd and the
late Witham Lloyd, former
Lucknow residents) will
move from Little Current on
the Manitoulin Island with
their family to Bracebridge in
August to begin his pastoral
charge. He succeeds Canon
David Mitchell who is retir-
ing after 26 years at St.
Thomas Anglican Church,
Bfacebrid ge.
Rev. Tomes was ordained
April 3, 1960 at Kenora and
after his marriage to Doris
Evelyn Lloyd of London, they
went to St, Peter's Mission at
Big Trout Lake, Ontario in
the diocese of Keewatin,
From there with their two
little girls, Kanesia and Ruth
(they had been saddened
with the death of their infant
son, Jonathan at birth) they
went to New Brunswick and
were six years at Hammond
River and five years at Grand
Manan Islands.
Since 1979, they have
served well at Little Current
and Gore Bay. They now
have two more children,
Matthew and Rebecca. The
older girls are in University.
The A.C.W. here sent
bales while the Tomes were
at Big Trout to aid in that
mission. Their many friends
and relatives wish all of the
Tomes family the very best in
their new parish in the
Master's service.
Mrs. John Barr, Mr. and
Mrs, Jack Barr and Mr. and
Mrs. Bill Burt visited Friday
evening with Mr. and Mrs,
Morley Bushell at Wingham,
