The UCW meeting was
held Wednesday, April 6 at
Mrs. Dave Gibb's home.
Alice Moore read the
scripture. Gertie Durnin read
a story of the crucifixion and
led in prayer.
Mrs. Durnin gave the
topic, Church in Society. She
told of Rev. Paul Webb from
Fredrick Mission in Toronto
who dressed as a homeless
transient, went to Halifax
with only his social insurance
card and $5 in his wallet. On
Arrival in Halifax he was
directed to a Catholic church.
A nun gave him three slips of
paper that would give him
three nights lodging at the
Salvation Army. He then set
out to find food. At different
churches he was disappoint-
ed at the lack of compassion
for the homeless. Some day
he would like to go back and
preach in those churches he
visited as a bum.
Alice Moore gave informa-
tion on the Fredrick Mission
which concentrates on single
displacement. The main hos-
tel accommodates 12 men
over night with a good break-
fast and dinner. A UCW
group provides sandwiches
for supper and have a senior
men's home in the same
building which holds 67.
Mrs. Durnin closed the
worship service with prayer.
It was decided to send $10
to Alcohol and Drug Con-
cern. Mrs. Evelyn Gibb gave
an article on the problem
concerning Nestle Milk form-
ulas for babies in Third
World countries. Many mo-
thers do not make the formu-
las correctly and babies die.
The minutes were read by
secretary, Mrs. Mussel Chap-
man and roll call was answer-
ed by 10 with a Bible verse
with the word, Love. Agnes
Farrier read a poem on
Housecleaning.
Wilda Laidlaw thanked the
hostess and those taking part
and closed the meeting with
prayer. Lunch was served by
hostess, Mrs. Gibb.
